Law enforcement officials are continuing to investigate today following the death Wednesday of a one-month-old child.
According to law enforcement officials, Lauren Faircloth called 911 at 11:09 a.m. to report that her five-week old baby, Remington Faircloth, was unresponsive and not breathing.
Marysville Division of Police Deputy Chief Bo Spain said that when police arrived at the home at 120 West Fourth Street, they began CPR. The child was transported to Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 11:50 a.m.
Spain said the matter is “under investigation.”
“Anytime there is an infant death there is an investigation,” Spain said. “At this point in time, it is too early to say anything.”
The mother said she and the child were alone in the home when she had laid the baby down to sleep.
“The mother said she woke up and found her unresponsive,” said Lance Emberling with the Union County Coroner’s Office.
Emberling said he could not comment about the sleeping arrangements because of the ongoing investigation. He said the incident, “looks like it is going to be an accident.”
Spain said there is, “no indication at this point of foul play.”
The baby’s body was sent to Montgomery County for an autopsy. Emberling said the coroner’s office and police will continue to “see if we can piece some things together,” but it would likely be eight weeks before any autopsy results are known.
The mother had been living at the home, owned by Union County Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services, for several weeks and is slated to be there for another four weeks.
