A Columbus man with a history of violence has been indicted locally after allegedly attacking a woman locally.
The Union County Grand Jury has indicted Jarrett Michael Levings, 32, of Columbus, charging him with one count each of felonious assault and domestic violence.
Union County Prosecutor David Phillips said that, on Jan. 15, Levings allegedly “broke into” his roommate’s room at their home in the 16000 block of Hillview Road. The prosecutor said he could not detail Levings’ intent when he broke into the room.
Phillips said Levings and the woman argued.
At some point during the argument the woman left the home, trying to get help from other residents who were inside a detached garage.
The woman got no answer from the individuals in the garage.
Levings continued to yell at the woman.
“Mr. Levings then punched (the woman) on the right side and continued to yell,” according to court documents. “Mr. Levings then grabbed (the victim) by her hair and threw her down onto a concrete pad.”
Phillips said the woman was eventually able to “barricade herself in the bathroom” and call for help.
Phillips said that when first responders arrived, the woman was “covered in blood.” He said the woman had “a number of injuries” including a broken nose.
Levings was arrested and the woman was taken to Memorial Hospital for her injuries.
Deputies also arrested John W. Durand, 66, of Delaware, for an outstanding warrant at the scene.
The grand jury added a specification to the indictment that would label Levings as a “repeat violent offender.”
“He has a history and a prior offense of violence,” Phillips said.
