A local woman was treated and released after she fell off and was then runover by a boat in east Tennessee.
Gabriella Wimmers of Marysville, was treated and released at Tennova North Medical Center following an incident over the Labor Day weekend.
According to a report from the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA), about 7 p.m., Saturday, Wimmers and William Tyler Sharp of Hamilton, Ohio, were passengers in a boat on Norris Lake in Campbell County, Tennessee.
Wimmers and Sharp were standing up in the front of a boat. Campbell Co. Wildlife Officer Brenden Marlow said the power boat “hit a wake, causing both to be ejected and run over.”
According to the reports from TWRA, Sharp was hit by the boat’s propeller and received “deep lacerations.” First responder officials termed the injuries, “serious.”
Sharp was taken by boat to Sequoyah Marina, then airlifted to University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. According to the report, Sharp is in critical but stable condition.
Wimmers, a 2020 Marysville High School graduate, was also thrown from the boat and run over though her injuries were not as severe. She was also taken by boat to the marina then by ambulance to Tennova North Medical Center where she was treated and released. Wimmers is a student at Ohio University.
According to TWRA, Madison Fantelli, of Cincinnati, has been charged with underage consumption of alcohol and reckless operation of a vessel.
The incident remains under investigation by Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
