The driver killed in a Monday crash on Collins Road may have been under the influence of drugs, according to law enforcement officials.
At approximately 5:12 p.m. Monday, a 1999 Honda Accord which drove left of center while traveling northeast on Collins Road and struck a 2017 Honda Accord that was traveling southwest on the same road.
The driver of the 1999 Accord, Erin A. Lee, 42, of Urbana and the driver of the 2017 Accord, Daniel Shaffer, 72, of Milford Center were initially transported to Memorial Hospital.
Lee was then flown to Grant Medical Center, where she died at 3:21 a.m. Tuesday.
Drugs were likely a factor in the crash, according to Lt. Mike Justice of the Sheriff’s Office, specifically involving the deceased driver, Lee.
Justice said he was unaware of Shaffer’s current condition or the extent of his injuries, though he emphasized they required transport to a hospital.
He said there were no passengers in either vehicle.
Justice said there were no citations issued as of Tuesday morning, but noted the accident is still under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
