Police recovered what they are calling “a pretty considerable amount of money,” following a hypnosis show at a local theatre.
According to police records, at 11:31 a.m., Saturday, officers from the Marysville Division of Police were called to the Avalon Theatre, 121 S. Main St.
“An employee there found what I would say is a pretty considerable amount of money,” said Captain Nate Sachs, with the police department.”
When police arrived the man turned over the money, which was, “ all cash.”
“We took possession of it for safe keeping,” Sachs said.
Police are not releasing the exact amount of the money as they are hoping that information will help with the investigation. Officials did say it was multiple tens of thousands of dollars.
He said there is no indication of anything illegal, “but at the same time, this amount of money in a public facility raises some eyebrows.”
Friday evening, the Avalon hosted a hypnosis show starring Gregg Pruett.
The show was billed as having volunteers from the audience hypnotized “to truly believe the most unbelievable suggestions, reacting as if they are really happening!”
Sachs said police are holding the money, but they are also looking for information.
“Currently, it is an open investigation,” Sachs said.
He added that while the facts are intriguing, it is “pretty straight forward.”
“The fact that it was found in a public place like this, we are just trying to find out who it belongs to and find out how it got there,” he said.
Sachs said investigators are not yet at a point where they are asking for the public for help.
“We want to look into it as best we can before we move forward with asking for the public’s help,” Sachs said.
