The North Union Board of Education met Monday for its regular board meeting.
On the agenda was approving funds for the new athletic field house.
Board members voted to purchase weight room equipment from EliteFTS.com in the amount of $73,384.42. This money will be used to buy new, needed equipment that will be used by all North Union athletes. The funds for this purchase will come from the Athletic Facility Furnishings account.
The board also approved a change request in the amount of $176,100 to Thomas and Marker Construction for work associated with the main water line going to the Athletic Field House. During the construction phase, running the water line the best way to the field house came in with a slight increase in price. The project is coming along on schedule.
Four local North Union fans received the #NU Pride Award given during Monday night’s meeting. At a recent boys basketball game, Rich Crabtree, Pam Crabtree, Tom Vernon and Carmen Shields went right into action when a referee passed out during the game. The four, all medically trained, along with others in the crowd, immediately assisted in the referee’s safety. While he sat through the rest of the game, he passed out again and the same people came to his rescue and the emergency squad was called to the scene, where he was checked out. Days later, the referee called North Union Schools to thank those who aided in his situation and he is fine.
Rich Crabtree was the only recipient able to attend the meeting. Superintendent Rich Baird said he was very proud of their help in a time of need.
