A pair of Madison County residents was arrested by Union County deputies Thursday after both resisted arrest.
According to Union County Chief Deputy Tom Morgan, deputies pulled over Jessica J. Helmuth, 45, of London, in Darby Township for expired plates Thursday at about 9:30 p.m. After Helmuth refused to provide identification or registration, deputies found that she had an outstanding warrant out of Madison County for traffic-related incidents.
In order to get her out of the car, deputies opened the passenger door and unlocked the rest of the doors. He also refused to take her hands off the steering wheel.
“We had to open the car door and place her under arrest,” Morgan said.
While she was being uncooperative, she reportedly called a relative, Daniel Helmuth, 47, of London. Daniel drove to the area and parked at a nearby church, where he watched the incident unfold.
Authorities eventually went to check on Daniel’s vehicle, partially because he had called 911, claiming Jennifer was being kidnapped.
“They could not get him to cooperate or open the door or even talk to deputies,” Morgan said.
Eventually, deputies had to smash his passenger window and unlock the doors. Morgan added that he was on his cell phone while deputies tried entering the vehicle.
He eventually came out of the vehicle, at which point authorities arrested him.
Both suspects were charged with obstructing official business and resisting arrest. They were taken to the Tri-County Regional Jail.
