A Marion man is in custody after leading several law enforcement agencies on a pursuit through Union County.
At approximately 1:34 p.m. Tuesday, a deputy from the Union County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a 2009 Lincoln MKS for a traffic violation on Route 4 near Pharisburg.
The driver, Troy C. Burgess, 25, of Marion was traveling 75 mph in a posted 55 mph zone.
The deputy attempted to stop the southbound vehicle near Kinney Pike.
Burgess then fled west on Route 347, south on Sandusky Road, then west on Martin Welch Road. According to the Sheriff’s Office, he “abruptly stopped” in a driveway in the 16000 block of Martin Welch Road and a female passenger exited the vehicle.
Chief Deputy Tom Morgan with UCSO said the female was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Sheriff’s Office. He said no charges were filed against her and she was released from custody.
After she exited the vehicle, Burgess then began to flee again, nearly striking a sheriff’s cruiser while leaving the driveway.
He continued west on Martin Welch Road and turned south on Route 31.
A deputy successfully deployed a tire deflation device near Route 31 and Hillview Road. The suspect’s vehicle struck the device on the passenger side front tire, but continued southbound on Route 31 to U.S. 33 eastbound.
The tire began to break apart on the suspect’s vehicle and it came to a stop on Route 4 on the U.S. 33 overpass.
Burgess refused to cooperate with deputies. Morgan said he was eventually tasered at approximately 1:46 p.m.
He was treated at the scene by EMS units from the Marysville Division of Fire and transported to the Tri-County Regional Jail.
Burgess was arrested for two outstanding warrants: a felony warrant from the City of Marion for identity theft and a bench warrant from the Marysville Municipal Court for failure to appear for a contempt hearing.
Morgan said Burgess was also charged with fleeing and eluding, a third-degree felony. He said additional charges are expected when the case is presented to the Union County Grand Jury Thursday morning.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the pursuit by officers from the Marysville Division of Police and troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
