Charges are pending against a Richwood man after he led police on a chase that ended with him in the hospital.
According to Marysville Police Chief Tony Brooks, at about 9:48 Wednesday evening an officer stopped a Ford Super Duty driven by Charles E. Wilcox, 57, for a traffic violation at Maple Street and Milford Avenue. As the officer was exiting his car, Wilcox fled the scene.
Wilcox led police on a roughly three-minute chase down Ninth Street to Ash Street, then back over to Milford Avenue. Reaching speeds of about 90 miles per hour, Wilcox led police south down Milford Avenue before losing control and crashing at the Route 4 intersection.
The driver had “unknown injuries,” but was still talking after the crash. Police believe alcohol and drug use were factors in the crash.
“My understanding was he was still belligerent with officers after the crash,” Brooks said.
He was taken to Memorial Hospital, and later to the OSU Wexner Medical Center. Brooks said charges are pending against Wilcox, including reckless operation of a vehicle, failure to comply and possession of marijuana.
Authorities also collected a blood sample to test for alcohol.
