A dozen mailboxes at residences in the northern part of the county were damaged overnight Wednesday.
Chief Deputy Tom Morgan said the Union County Sheriff’s Office first received a report of damage to one mailbox, but officials at the scene quickly found more.
“The deputy kept finding them and adding them to the count,” he said.
Morgan noted that the Sheriff’s Office continued to receive reports throughout the day Thursday until the tally reached 12 damaged mailboxes.
He said each of the mailboxes were “smashed.”
One victim reportedly said they believed the damage was done “with a ball bat,” Morgan said.
The damage occurred in the 14000, 16000, 17000 and 18000 blocks of Miller Road; the 27000 block of Route 31; the 17000, 19000 and 20000 blocks of Yoakum Road and the 33000 block of Fields Road.
Morgan said all occurred between midnight and 6 a.m. Thursday.
The Sheriff’s Office does not currently have any suspects, Morgan said. Investigators are reviewing video footage provided by property owners whose mailboxes were damaged.
Morgan said potential charges will depend upon how many individuals were involved and whether the suspects are juveniles or adults.
“It could be criminal damaging, it could be something more serious,” he said.
The cases are currently under investigation.
