The sights of fall and Halloween season rarely overlap with mid-summer readings on the thermometer, but this week has been one for the record books. After setting record high temperatures in the low 90s the last two days, today is also expected to top out near the 90-degree mark. Previously, there have only been four total days eclipsing 90 degrees in October – two days in 2007 and one each in 1951 and 1897. Above, a traditional sign of fall, bales of hay, sit on a wagon outside of McAuliffe’s Ace Hardware on West Fifth Street while the business’ digital sign reads 89 degrees Wednesday afternoon.
