The Plain City Farmers’ Market will open today, with added safety precautions in light of COVID-19.
“This season will look different,” according to a statement from market organizers.
One of the biggest changes is a switch in location. This year, the Farmers’ Market will be hosted on the front lawn of the old elementary school building, 340 West Main Street.
Market organizers also elected to omit all family and children activities for the season. They hope to offer these activities next year.
Throughout the market, there will be markers that remind and encourage shoppers to maintain social distance while browsing. The market will also provide a hand washing station.
Organizers also provided a list of guidelines that customers are asked to follow while at the market.
The venue will have a clearly marked entrance and exit to guide the flow of foot traffic in one direction.
Customers will be required to wear masks while at the market.
Those who are ill must stay home and should not return until they are “free of fever for at least 72 hours without fever-reducing medication and improvement in respiratory symptoms.”
Shoppers will not be permitted to sample or touch products throughout the market. Vendors will be able to answer questions and assist in providing touch-free shopping.
Those in attendance are also asked to refrain from loitering.
“We are just as happy to see you but our goal is to limit congestion,” the statement included.
Each week, the market will post a list of updated vendors on its social media pages.
The opening day group of vendors will offer a variety of foods and handmade goods.
The market will feature fresh vegetables, pickles, honey, locally made sausage, jam and microgreens. Shoppers can also purchase handmade jewelry, homemade soaps, paintings, incense, clothes and other items.
The market will be open every Thursday through Oct. 8 from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
