Richwood Village Council met Monday evening with president Reddy Brown running the meeting in the absence of Mayor Scott Jerew, who was attending the North Union Board of Education meeting.
Knowing that residents have been asking about planting trees in the tree lawn, council discussed the current ordinances on the village’s records. Council’s biggest concern is protecting the village infrastructure which was recently installed. For years, tiles have broken down and causing council to repair the tile. In most situations, the tiles have collapsed or broken down due to tree roots getting into them. They want to have all their questions answered by experts on the types of trees that might be acceptable to plant.
Council tabled proposals until all questions are answered. They know that many residents will be thinking of planting early next spring and council wants to have guidelines in place.
On the topic of tiling, the Route 47, Edgewood and Dudley Circle project has been completed. New drainage tile have been installed to eliminate the flooding problems that have plagued the east end of the village. At council’s meeting last week, two Edgewood Street residents told council that the inch of rain the village received, there was no sign of water lying around anywhere and they were extremely pleased with the tiling project. To complete the project, grass seed will need to be laid when possible.
Council received information regarding the money used to complete the North Franklin Street project. With the cost of constructions, any adjustments and using grant funds to complete the draining project on Route 47, Edgewood and Dudley Circle, council was responsible for approximately $130,000 out of their coffers. The total cost of the North Franklin Street project and the drainage project came to approximately, $1,335,000. The village was responsible for about 10 percent of the total cost. Something they were very please with in updating the infrastructure of the village.
In other business, council:
-Heard that the light poles will be delayed again, due to the fact that enough fuses were not available to be installed on the light poles. It will be about four weeks before the poles will be installed and the lights burning.
-Heard that some local officers were involved with the Shop With A Cop event last week in Marysville, which went very well.
Council’s next meeting will be held Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. at the village administration building, located at 153 N. Franklin St. Meetings are open to the public.
