Even though councilman Jack Moore was absent from Monday night’s regular meeting due to health issues, he was elected to serve as president of the Richwood Village Council for the present year.
Council awarded a contract for construction of the East Bomford Street Project in the amount of $526,647.47 to Brenneman Excavating, Inc. of Elida, Ohio. Village Administrator Monte Asher, stated that they received eleven bids for the project and only two bids were $60,000 over the estimated bid of the project. Work will begin in February. The project will be installing new water and sewer lines, street, curb and sidewalks from S. Franklin Street to Pearl Street. Also included in the work is installing new storm lines from Pearl Street to School Street and hook up into the E. Ottawa Street line.The work should be completed by September, if not sooner, weather permitting.
The LUC (Logan/Union/Champaign) Regional Planning Commission will be sending a representative to Richwood Jan. 22, to hold an organizational meeting with the new members of the Richwood Planning Commission. Members of the new group include Mayor Scott Jerew, Councilmen Reddy Brown and Pat Morse, and residents Jim Dew and Jerry Belt. The meeting session will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the village administration building, located at 153 N. Franklin Street. The group will learn about rules and regulations of the planning commission.
In other business, council:
-Heard work will begin with rip rap around the banks of Richwood Lake, as part of the beginning work of the Richwood Lake Trail Project January 22. This is a process of securing the banks with large rocks to keep the bank from eroding.
-Was informed about the hiring process starting. There have been nine applicants apply for a part-time park worker and a full-time employee for the street department.
-Heard that police officers have completed taser certification.
-Was told that Marysville SWAT officers have completed training on a house on N. Franklin Street recently.
-Approved a resolution granting a revokable permit for the stairway at the corner of West Ottawa and North Franklin streets to Dexter and Dexter rental (this is a grandfathered situation).
The next regular meeting of village council will be held Monday, Jan. 22, 7 p.m. at the administration building, 153 N. Franklin Street, Richwood.
