One person is dead after a car crash that closed the roadway at the intersection of Route 347 and Lunda Road at 7:47 a.m. today.
According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, the crash involved a 1998 Jeep Cherokee, driven by Jason A. Winter, 29, of Raymond, traveling eastbound on Route 347 and turned in front of a 2017 International Prostar tractor trailer, driven by Richard L. Casteele, 49, of Prospect, which was traveling westbound on the road.
Winter was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.
The Union County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene. Winter was transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
Casteele was transported to Memorial Hospital after the crash.
The release states drugs and alcohol were not suspected to be factors in the crash.
Tom Morgan, Chief Deputy with the Union County Sheriff’s Office, said Route 347 is expected to remain closed until at least the early afternoon today, until the investigation is completed.
The crash remains under investigation by the Union County Sheriff’s Office, the Multi County Crash Investigation Team and the Union County Coroner’s Office. The road is being detoured around the scene by the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Units from the Allen Township and Liberty Township fire departments assisted at the scene.
