Officials from the Union County Health Department are thanking residents for their patience as they work to vaccinate local seniors.
Appointments for the first clinic, reserved for those 80 or older, filled within the first 30 minutes they were available, according to UCHD.
Vaccine supply is extremely limited, as the health department has not received a weekly shipment larger than 200 doses.
For that reason, there is not a waitlist and appointments are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis. The online scheduler closes once slots are filled.
UCHD officials have previously said they will provide information as to when the online scheduler, at www.uchdclinic.org, will open for the upcoming week on Thursdays.
The age group eligible to receive a vaccine at next week’s clinic will expand to those 75 and older.
As of Sunday, Union County has started the vaccine – meaning that person has received the first of two shots – in 2,064 individuals, according to the Ohio Department of Health.
Prior to vaccines becoming available to older individuals, EMS responders, health care workers in direct contact with COVID-19 patients and those living in congregate care facilities were prioritized.
In total, 3.5% of the county has received at least the first dose of the vaccine.
Seniors who made an appointment will receive their first shot of the two-dose vaccine on Wednesday.
