Marysville’s local community theater group, Silver Scene Players (SSP), is launching its seventh season performing the comedy classic by Moss Hart and George S. Kauffman, “You Can’t Take It With You.”
Show dates are April 26 and 27 at 7 p.m. and April 28 at 2 p.m. at the Union County Veterans Memorial Auditorium. All proceeds from the show will benefit local non-profit, Community and Seasoned Citizens.
Director Michele Van Ness Herbon said she is “super excited” to be directing a full-length play for the first time. She is directing the show along with assistant director Molly Barker.
“I’ve been on the stage and done dinner theater acting and directing, so this is a whole new thing for me,” said Herbon, who is also a SSP producer. “I’m also very excited to be benefitting the Community and Seasoned Citizens organization. I think it’s a great organization that helps many folks here in Union County.”
The show is about the Sycamores, who seem mad, but it is not long before we realize that if they are mad, the rest of the world is madder. In contrast to these delightful people are the unhappy Kirbys. When the Kirbys’ attractive young son falls in love with Alice Sycamore, he brings his parents to dine at the Sycamore home on the wrong evening. With these two worlds colliding come mad activities including playwriting, ballet dancing, xylophone playing, snakes, printing, candy making and—of course—fireworks.
“The play is very funny and entertaining but also you walk away with a little nugget of wisdom. It makes you think about life and what you do with it,” said Herbon.
Tickets can be purchased at www.silversceneplayers.com or at the door on performance dates. The box office can be reached at (937) 553-3777.
SSP has raised more than $20,000 in total for various Union County non-profits.
The group produces two main shows a year, in addition to other community performances and activities.
SSP’s mission to give back to the community through the joy of theatre aligns with Community and Seasoned Citizens’ mission to unite individuals in common interest and goals and partnering with the community.
