Area residents can tour seven of the most awe-inspiring gardens that Union County has to offer at Town and Country Gardens, 2018 Union County Master Gardener Tour of Gardens.
The self-guided tour will be held rain or shine on Sunday, July 8, from 1-5 p.m.
There will be gardening demonstrations and door prizes at each location. Gardens may be visited in any order. A variety of garden settings will spark ideas that can replicated.
One stop features a tranquil, hosta-filled wooded garden features a fire pit and relaxation space and a large day lily assortment pops with color in the sun garden. Tour participants can also learn about composting and rain barrels.
At another stop, fruit trees, a vineyard, vegetable and berry gardens, an elaborate patio, fire pit, pergola and pond are on display. Participants can learn how to grow grapes and make wine.
Assorted flowers, a productive vegetable garden, antique garden art, a bridge and much more surround a large tree at another stop. participants can learn how to capture the color and form of plants through photography.
A featured stop has a cottage garden which surrounds a Victorian Marysville home. Colorful flowers, shrubs and trees planted by the owner’s great-grandparents and cared for by four generations provide year-round enjoyment in this urban garden.
One stop features a Japanese-style urban garden with rare plants such as unique conifers, unusual green Japanese maples, imported tree peonies, bonsai and a pond, waterfall and koi fish. It is a small space with a huge impact. Here, participants will learn to create green in the garden year-round.
Another stop shows an inviting country setting with artwork throughout the gardens and a unique, hidden old English garden, where attendees can learn.
Native plants provide food for pollinators throughout the season at another sunny garden. Vegetables grow in containers created from repurposed materials and attendees can learn about straw bale gardening and create a bug hotel.
Map and garden locations are provided with ticket purchase. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased at the Union County Agricultural Center, Dutch Mill Greenhouse, Plumm Home, Scheiderer Farms Greenhouse, or the Union County Chamber of Commerce.
