U.C. Foundation, United Way partner to create COVID-19 Community Relief Fund

The Union County Foundation and the United Way of Union County have partnered to raise funds to assist with local needs as a result of the COVID-19 emergency.
“Our board voted last week to reallocate funds to COVID-19 originally earmarked for part of our Care United program (formerly Community Care Day),” Corinne Bix, United Way of Union County Director, said. “In addition we set up a COVID-19 relief fund, and donors can give conveniently via our online and text-to-give giving platform.”
The Union County Foundation had a similar plan and put its fund in motion last week.
“We are already seeing folks in need of food, shelter, rent assistance and other needs,” Union County Commissioner and Foundation Board Chair Chris Schmenk said. “… I am thrilled to see the United Way and the Foundation join forces to help our county.”
Schmenk noted that services are still available through the Union County Jobs and Family Services Department, at 937-644-1010 or 1-800-248-2347 and https://www.co.union.oh.us/Department-of-Job-Family-Services/. She explained that these funds will act as an additional safety net during this trying time.
The Union County COVID-19 fund will support organizations that provide direct social service in this community.
The fund will be used in cooperation with the Mass Critical Care Unit of the Union County Emergency Operation Center. Bix heads this unit, formed specifically to track needs in the community as they arise and to connect volunteers.
