The Union County Health Department is now offering COVID-19 booster shots to a certain group of eligible individuals.
In accordance with CDC guidance, only those who completed their second Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at least six months ago are eligible to receive a booster shot through UCHD.
Among those, eligible individuals include:
– People who are 65 years and older;
– Residents in long-term care settings;
– People aged 18-64 with underlying medical conditions;
– People aged 18-64 who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission due to their occupation or institutional setting.
Booster doses through UCHD are available by appointment.
Appointments can be scheduled online at www.uchdclinic.org. Those without internet access are encouraged to reach out to a friend or family member for help scheduling. Those who require further assistance should call (937) 642-2053.
Individuals must bring their COVID-19 vaccination card and photo ID to their appointments. They are also asked to wear a mask and clothing that allows access to their upper arm.
Appointments Oct. 5-8 will be held inside the Union County Health Department, 940 London Avenue. Individuals are asked to enter under the large green awning at the front of the building.
Beginning Oct. 12 through the end of the month, drive-thru clinics will once again be hosted at the Union County Fairgrounds. Those receiving a shot are asked to enter through the Route 4 entrance.
The booster shot recommendations are in addition to earlier guidance from the CDC and FDA that individuals with moderately to severely compromised immune systems receive a third dose of the vaccine.
Immunocompromised patients are eligible for a third dose of Pfizer or Moderna at least 28 days after their second dose of the vaccine.
There is currently no recommendation for other groups to get an additional dose of vaccine.
The FDA is expected to review data related to additional doses of Moderna and Johnson & Johnson over the next several weeks, according to a statement from UCHD.
