Man loaded them on trailer in front of Lowe’s store
Police are searching for a suspect who stole four zero-turn lawn mowers from a local business overnight Sunday.
The Marysville Division of Police received a report from Lowe’s, located at 15775 U.S. 36, at 10:14 a.m. Monday that the lawn mowers were missing.
According to the report, they cost a total of $17,596.
Deputy Chief Tony Brooks said security cameras at the business captured footage of a single male suspect stealing the mowers.
Brooks said the man drove a white Dodge Ram pickup truck with a black fender and trim, which was attached to a light-colored enclosed trailer.
The suspect appeared to have “cased the store,” Brooks said, as he first arrived in the parking lot and began “scoping out the area” at 9:51 p.m. Sunday.
The man stayed on the scene until Lowe’s closed and employees left the business.
Brooks said the suspect returned to the store and committed the theft at 12:10 a.m. Monday.
The lawn mowers that were stolen are kept in front of the business. They are left outside overnight.
Brooks said they are held in place with a cable that acts as a security device.
He noted that the keys were left in the motors of the mowers.
The suspect reportedly cut the security cable. Then, he “fueled up” each mower using a gas can that he brought to the scene with him, Brooks said.
Once each mower’s gas tank was filled, Brooks said the suspect drove the four mowers into the enclosed trailer and fled the scene.
Brooks said license plates of the pick-up truck and trailer are not visible in the security footage.
Based on the footage, he said the suspect appears to be an “older African American male” who possibly has a gray beard and is “bald on top.”
