Authorities are investigating an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on U.S. 33 this morning.
Union County Sheriff’s Department officials would not say if the female victim was alive or dead. Union County Coroner David Applegate did confirm that his office was summoned to the scene.
According to an email from Union County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Tom Morgan, at about 9 a.m. Sheriff’s deputies received a report of a person on the ground next to a vehicle on U.S. 33 and Route 161.
Upon arrival, deputies, units from the Jerome Township Fire Department and the Washington Township Fire Department found a female on the ground next to a 2005 Buick LeSabre with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. A handgun was found at the scene and it appears nobody else was in the vehicle.
The victim was taken to Dublin Methodist Hospital. Morgan was unable to confirm her current condition.
One lane of U.S. 33 has been closed off by the Ohio Department of Transportation while the Sheriff’s Office process the scene.
