A worker at an egg farm in York Township has died.
According to information released by the Union County Sheriff’s Office, a 25-year old immigrant farm worker living in Marion, died as a result of falling off a ladder at New Day Farms on Powder-Lick Road just after 1:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
A preliminary investigation revealed the man was found unresponsive after working on a manure transport belt and fell from a 15-foot, motorized ladder in one of the farm’s barns, the release said.
As of this morning, the man has not been identified and no information aside from his age, occupation and city of residence was available. Sheriff’s officials would not say if the worker was a citizen of the United States, although the immigration enforcement agencies is assisting with the case..
“It will take us a while to investigate this one,” said Deputy Tom Morgan of the Sheriff’s Office. “We have a lot to go through.”
The Union County Coroner’s Office was called and the victim was transported to the Montgomery County Morgue.
The incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, the Coroner’s Office, the Occupational Health and Safety Administration and the U.S. Immigration and Customers Enforcement.
