Barbara Theresa (Bishop) Sellars, age 84, of London, OH, passed peacefully to her heavenly home on May 1, 2024, at Bluebird Retirement Community following a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born on January 16, 1940, in Milford Center, OH, one of eight children to the late Robert Bishop and Marie Boerger Bishop. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, brother John Bishop, sisters Ruth Bishop Neas, Beth Bishop Brown, Brother-In-Law Dwight Thompson, Brother-In-Law Ted Neas.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Robert Sellars; sons, David (Janet) Sellars of Newnan, GA, and Matthew (Monica) Sellars of Knoxville, TN; sisters: Miriam Bishop Staten, of Marysville, Mary Bishop Salyers of Marysville, Jeanne Bishop Thompson of Marysville; brother, Gerald Bishop of Milford Center; Sister-In-Law Kay Bishop of Ocala, FL, Brother-In-Law Marvin Brown of Marysville; 4 grandchildren, Seth (Rebecca) Sellars of Franklin, GA, Harleigh (Hunter) White of Franklin, GA, Natalie (Joe) Bentley of Jefferson City, TN, and Jacob Sellars of Knoxville, TN; and 7 great-grandchildren, Gunner Sellars, Willa, Remi, and Josi White, and Wyatt, Cash, Ridge Bentley.
Barbara earned her RN degree from Community Hospital in Springfield. She was among the first nurses hired when Madison County Hospital opened in 1962, where she dedicated 37 years to tirelessly caring for others before retiring in 1998. She spent the last few years of nursing by being a very dedicated and loving Hospice Nurse to all of Madison County before she retired.
She was a lifelong, active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with the Grandchildren. Loved Butterflies and watching birds. Butterflies were very special to her because to a nurse the butterfly is a symbol of Hope.
The funeral service for Barbara will be Tuesday May 7, 2024, at 10:30 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 380 Keny Blvd., London, OH. Interment will follow in Deercreek Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation at the church on Monday, May 6, 2024, from 5 to 7 pm.
