Donald J. Moder, 94, of Milford Center, died Wednesday morning, Aug. 15, 2018, at Memorial Gables, following a brief illness.
He retired after 38 years of service as a warehouse foreman for U.S. Plywood in Columbus. A life member of Trinity Lutheran Church, he attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Marysville High School in 1942. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and served in the South Pacific Theater. During his time in the South Pacific, he met his brother, Paul, on “R and R” while he too was there in the Navy.
He was a life member of the VFW, a former police officer for the village of Milford Center for 10 years and served on the Union Township Volunteer Fire Department for 15 years. His pastime activities included bowling, shooting pool and traveling to Cleveland to enjoy the Cleveland Browns during football season.
He was born March 3, 1924, in Marysville, to the late Albert E. and Bertha W. Eickemeyer Moder. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Paul Moder, sister, Dolores Anderson and brothers-in-law, Richard and Russell Nolting.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of almost 75 years, Joan E. Nolting Moder, whom he married Dec. 26, 1943, at her parent’s home in Ashley; children, Janet K. Moder, Alan E. (Carol) Moder and Bruce P. (Terri) Moder, all of Milford Center; grandchildren, Tracy Moder, Nathan (Angela) Moder, Jennifer (Gerald) Predmore, Benjamin Moder, Bethanie Moder and Emily Drum; 12 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Zema Moder of Marysville; in-laws, Joyce Umerly of Rocky River and Alben (Lorraine) Nolting of Georgia; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Ingram Funeral Home, where the Rev. Barry Scott will officiate funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will follow at Milford Center with the Union County Honor Guard providing full military honors.
