Emerson “Bud” Theodore Young, 77, of Somersville died peacefully Sunday morning, Feb. 16 at his home surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with cancer.
A 1961 graduate of Northwestern High School, he was a lifelong truck driver.
He was a former baseball coach and umpire for the Marysville Baseball Association. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Richwood.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends in Ohio and in their second home in Florida. He was also a diehard OSU football fanatic.
He was born Nov. 26, 1942 in Reynoldsburg to the late Oscar and Ethel Young. He was preceded in death by 12 brothers and one infant sister; a son, Douglas A. Young; and a stepdaughter, Tonya (Shoemaker) Stevens.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sharon; their children, Keith (Lisa) Young of Chillicothe, James Young of Columbus, Jack (Stacy) Shoemaker of Dayton, Tamie (Doug) McClelland of Marysville, Tana (Jack) Johnston of Richwood, Brian (Lisa) Shoemaker of Marysville and Michael (Carol) Shoemaker of Marysville; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Shelly Young of Marysville; two sisters, Loretta Breen of Madison, Wisconsin and Martha (Jack) Iarussi of Baltimore, Ohio; and many other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Ingram Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
In his memory, contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of the funeral home.
