Jean A. Humble, 83, of Dublin and formerly of Marysville, died unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, Feb. 12, 2019, at Dublin Methodist Hospital.
She graduated from Miami Valley School of Nursing in Dayton. During her nursing career, she worked for Dr. Rodney Hurl, and in almost every department in Memorial Hospital ending her more than 25 years of service as an ER nursing supervisor. After retirement, she continued as a parish nurse with Shiloh Friends Church and a hospice nurse for another five years. “Once a nurse, always a nurse” was the way she lived her life.
She was a 64-year devoted member of the Mary Chapter #9 OES where she served as the worthy matron multiple times. While living in Florida, she volunteered in a hospice hospital, took blood pressures once a month and was always available to assist family and friends with medical care and advice.
As a Christian, she was strong in her faith serving as an elder in the church, a Stevens minister and witnessing to others of Jesus dying on the cross to save people and of his unconditional love. She traveled to Africa twice with the Least of These Missions trips and continued to support three children in an orphanage provided for through the missions.
She was quite the traveler, having flown to Hawaii and taken several cruises with stops and tours in the Bahamas, Key West, Bermuda, Ireland, France and England. Florida had been her home for 17 years, prior to moving back to Dublin to spend more time with her daughters.
She was born Jan. 9, 1936, in DeGraff, to the late Glenn K. and Beulah Petty Downing. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded by her husband, Charles R. Humble, who died March 4, 2000; brother, Glenn Downing; brother in-law, Roger Humble; and nephew, Gregg Humble.
She is survived by her children, Kristy (Tim) Bosley of Milford Center, Kathy (Kevin) Payne of Hilliard and Kelly (Frank) Resch of New Albany; grandchildren, Kori (Nick) Fenner, Kent (Elizabeth) Payne, Kirk (Natalie) Payne, Kylie Payne, Frank Resch, Michelle Resch and David Resch; great-grandchildren, Reese, Peyton, Landon and Emily; siblings, Joyce Elaine (Danny) Altmaier of Marysville, Charles (Carolyn) Downing of Springfield and Norm (Joyce) Downing of Florida; a sister-in-law, Patty Downing of Ostrander; in-laws, Carol Humble, Bill (Sharon) Humble and Cheri (Walt) Adkins; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ingram Funeral Home, with an Eastern Star memorial service to begin at 8 p.m. The Rev. Wayne Downing will officiate funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Forest Grove Cemetery in Plain City next to her husband.
In her memory, contributions may be made to Loving Care Hospice in care of the funeral home.
