John E. Frey, 90, of Marysville, died Saturday evening, Feb. 9, 2019, at Brookdale of Marysville, following many months of failing health.
He retired from O.M. Scott and Sons following 25 years of service and was a lifetime farmer with his brother, Andy, on the family farm. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Scott’s 20-Year Club.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and participated in the Battle of Kumsong Salient. In his retirement years, he volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program and enjoyed mowing lawns for neighbors and friends. He enjoyed playing dart ball, gardening and spending time with his family, who loves him dearly and will miss him.
He was born May 5, 1928, in Westerville, to the late John Emanuel and Georgia Caroline Asher Frey. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death his sisters and their husbands, Mary Jane and Chester Patten and Caroline and Chris Braun; sister-in-law, Evelyn Frey; niece, Brenda Frey; and his nephew’s wife, Cheryl Patten.
He is survived by his brother, Andrew Frey of Marysville; nephews, John (Joyce) Frey, Charlie (Susan) Frey, Susan (Jim) Rigano, Charlotte (Mark) Beckmen, Carol (Dan) Rowe, David (Nancy) Patten, Carol (Terry) Horton, Mary Ann (Phillip) Christian and Janet (Doug) Hawks; 20 great-nieces and nephews; and 21 great-great-nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Barry Scott will officiate funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ingram Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 10:30 a.m. The Union County Honor Guard will provide full military honors.
