Joseph A. “Joe” Morris, 57, died late Tuesday evening, January 4th at home with his loving and devoted wife and son by his side, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
A veteran of the United States Air Force, Joe worked as an administrative assistant at the Union County Health Department, retiring after 28 years. A 49’ers fan, he loved to watch Indy, NASCAR and Formula 1 racing, and he especially enjoyed traveling with his wife and son while his health allowed. Above all things, Joe was a devoted husband and dad – his family will miss him tremendously.
Joe was born June 20, 1964 in Columbus to Franklin D. and Dorthy (Cales) Morris. He was preceded in death by his father, Franklin, and a sister, Kim Peters.
He is survived by the love of his life, the former Barbara Jean Tharp, whom he married June 2, 1984 at the Maple Grove United Methodist Church in Columbus; his loving son Charles Joseph “CJ” Morris of Marysville; mother Dorthy Morris of South Carolina; brother James Morris and sister Annamarie (loving husband, Mark) Woods, both of South Carolina; nieces and nephews Melanie Allen, Karl Peters, Mitchell Mayer and Samantha (Jared) Holloway; and several great nieces, great nephews, and good friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday from 1-4 pm at the Ingram Funeral Home, where a brief Celebration of Life service will be held promptly at 4 pm with Pastor Tom Schwind officiating. The Union County Honor Guard will also provide military honors. The family requests that those who attend calling hours to please wear a mask for the safety of all in attendance.
In Joe’s memory, contributions may be made to Loving Care Hospice in care of the funeral home.
