Laurence Paul Ahlers, age 84, of Marysville, died peacefully at his home, Thursday, December 16, 2021. A retired associate of State Auto Club Insurance, he received a bachelor’s degree from Drury College in Missouri and attended the University of Missouri for graduate work. Known as “Larry” to family and friends, he had a passion for nature and organic gardening, was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts and was an avid reader. An athlete, he liked marathon running, bicycling, mountain climbing and skiing. Larry also loved to travel with his wife, Alice. Above all, he was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was born December 15, 1937 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Paul E. and Myrtle Fuerst Ahlers. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Ahlers. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Alice R. Call Ahlers, whom he married November 6, 1969; his children, Elizabeth (Doug) Page of Grandview, David (Kavita) Ahlers of Vestavia Hills, Alabama and Brian (Anne) Ahlers of San Francisco, California; his grandchildren, Ethan, Kathryn, Luke, Logan and Asha; and other relatives. The calling hours will be on Sunday, December 19, 2021 from 2 – 4 p.m. at Underwood Funeral Home in Marysville, where a Memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Larry’s memory to Boys Scouts of America or American Cancer Society.
