Melvin T. “Butch” Hobbs, 71, of Marysville, died Sunday morning, Aug. 5, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family, following many months of failing health.
He retired after being a self-employed commercial flooring contractor. He was a member of the Heart of Ohio Fish and Game Club and enjoyed fishing. He was an avid bowler and a very competitive euchre player.
He, with his wife Rebecca, enjoyed a vacation trip to Mexico visiting Cancun and Cabo San Lucas, their first trip outside the United States. His greatest joy came with being with family and experiencing the birth of his first great-granddaughter.
He was born April 9, 1947, in Columbus, to the late Shelby T. and Violet E. Adkins Hobbs. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Shelba Nye, granddaughter, Autum and step-son, Brian Keyes.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca J. Lefik Hobbs, whom he married Feb. 28, 2012, in Temecula, California; children, Vickie Dean of Michigan, Michael Hobbs of Nevada, James Hobbs of Arizona and Shawna (Daniel) Hobbs-Robbins of Arizona; step-children, Bennie (Jill) Keyes of Indiana and Michael Joy of California; grandchildren, Christal, Tyler, Weston, Brianna, Brandon, Brittnee, Jessica, Gary, Emma and Mason “Bam Bam;” great-granddaughter, Pasiley; sister, Libby (Lee) Simpson; aunt, Rosalie Phelps; uncle, Lenny (Marilyn) Hobbs; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; former brother-in-law, David Davis of Arizona; and canine companion, Lulu.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at Ingram Funeral Home. The Rev. William Kelley will officiate a Celebration of Life service to follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at a later date at Oakdale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home.
