Raymond Robert Russell age 94 of Plain City passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Edgewater Place, Plain City. Born May 21, 1927 in Sherrodsville, Ohio. Longtime member of Plain City Presbyterian Church, dedicated member of the PCPC Church choir, and served on many boards. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Mount Union University in 1951 and a Master’s of Education form Kent State University in 1961, which led to a 40-year teaching career. In addition to teaching, he also enjoyed a 50-year coaching career. He touched the lives of many students and athletes at Spencer, Malvern, United and Jonathan Alder schools. His passion for the sports of Track and Field and Cross Country allowed him to serve as treasurer of the OAT & CCC for 29 years. This service enabled him and his wife to develop lifelong friendships all over the state of Ohio. Preceded in death by parents William and Leona (Thomas) Russell, wife Jean (Mills) Russell, great-granddaughter Rowan Burke, brothers Donald Russell, David Russell, Wayne Russell, and Jack Russell. Survived by sister Kathleen Klotz, sisters-in-law Jackie Lou Russell and Wilma Russell, son Rod (Dorothy) Russell, daughter Nancy (Steve) Patterson, grandchildren Brynn (Chad) Carney, Brooke Russell, Blair (Joe) Burke, and Bandon (Liz) Bradley, great-grandchildren Rylan Burke, Morgyn Craney, Ripley Burke, Elliott Bradley and many nieces and nephews. A private family graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at Bethlehem Cemetery, Malvern, OH. A celebration of life is planned for May 22, 2022 at Plain City Presbyterian Church, 231 E.
