Roger D. Cockrell, 84, of Marysville, died late Thursday evening, June 14, 2018, at his residence, after months of failing health.
A U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, he was a longtime member of American Legion Post #79. A man of faith, he attended and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Ascension Lutheran Church in Columbus. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, as well as working on home improvement projects.
He was born May 26, 1934, in Sunbury, to the late Stanley and Margaret Reynolds Cockrell.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, the former Beverly A. Vermillion Starr, whom he married Aug. 24, 2002, at Ascension Lutheran Church in Columbus; children, Leeann (Norman) Walford of Westerville, Barry Cockrell of Heath, Michael Cockrell of Whitehall, Marylou Simmons of Westerville and Connie Smith, Jay Harn and Joe Harn of Columbus; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sister, Jeanne (Dick) Byassee of New York.
The Rev. Barry Scott will officiate a Celebration of Life service at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Ingram Funeral Home is completing the arrangements.
