Virginia Johnson, 80, of Marysville, died Sunday evening, April 28, at Arlington Pointe in Middletown, following a brief illness.
She was retired from Milcrest Nursing Home as an LPN after 27 years of service. In her high school years, she was a candy striper at Memorial Hospital. Following graduation from nursing school, she first worked in the burn unit of Children’s Hospital.
A woman of faith, she was a lifetime member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, and was a longtime member of St. Johns Quilters.
In her spare time, she enjoyed bird watching and was a member of the World Wildlife Federation. Her love for bird watching led her and husband Gene to establish a bird sanctuary at their home in Allen Center.
As a military wife, she and Gene were stationed around the country, Alaska being their favorite place of deployment.
She was a compassionate, loving and caring soul with a quiet sense of humor, who loved her family dearly.
She was born Oct. 29, 1938, in Union County, to the late Ralph and Ernestine Rausch.
She married Gene E. Johnson on Dec. 21, 1957, at St. Johns Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on April 4, 2017.
She is survived by her children, Brenda J. (Bob) Johnson-Gibbs of Monroe and Dan G. (Julie Anne) Johnson of Milford Center; grandchildren, Kimberlee Booth, Ashlee Booth, Ellee Johnson, Ross Gibbs, Alicia Gibbs and Mikayla Johnson Sharpshair; a great granddaughter, Emmalee Miller; a brother, Rollie (Susan) Rausch of Marysville; a sister, Mary Ann Hilts of Verona, New York; numerous nieces, nephews and good church friends.
Calling hours will be held from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, at the Ingram Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m., Thursday, at St. Johns Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jacob Heino officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery next to her husband.
In her memory, contributions may be made to St. Johns Lutheran Church in care of the funeral home.
