Wesley J. Combs, 84, of Marysville, died Wednesday afternoon, March 27, 2019, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
He was retired from Nestle’ R&D as a welder/fabricator. A man of great faith, in later years, he was a minister and pastored his home church of Mt. Carmel Church, in Wellston, for three years.
He was known as a man who enjoyed tinkering and spent a lot of time in his shop working on small engines and other projects. He also was known as the neighborhood mechanic who regularly helped those in need and enjoyed sharing his mechanical knowledge with those of the younger generation.
Through the years, he has enjoyed hunting, guns, woodworking and collecting pictures of old farm tractors.
He was born Sept. 25, 1934, in Logan County, West Virginia, to the late Chester and Bertha Johnson Combs Sr. He was also preceded in death by a daughter Sheryl Lynn Combs-Howell; sons Wesley Richard Combs and Steve W. Combs; and his siblings, Roy Combs, Eddie Combs, Chester Combs Jr, and Kenneth Combs.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marjorie A. Collins Combs whom he married Aug. 29, 1953, in Marion; their children, Marcia J. Haudenschield and Scott R. (Jill) Combs both of Marysville; 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; siblings, Robert (Dorothy) Combs, Cecil (Bonnie) Combs, Donald (Judith) Combs, Curtis (Sheila) Combs, Mary Lee Sims, Juanita (Henry) Adams, Betty (Larry) Perkins, Donna (Paul) Dicus; several nieces and nephews; and his many friends in the neighborhood.
Calling hours will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday at the Ingram Funeral Home where funeral services are to be held at 1 p.m. Monday with his brother, Curtis Combs, officiating. Burial will follow at the Milford Center Cemetery.
