A combined total of 99 pounds of expired and unused medications were collected across three locations at a recent drug take-back day.
Locations were made available to the residents of Union County during the National Take-Back Initiative held Saturday. Law enforcement officers, firefighters and volunteers from Plain City Police Department, Pleasant Valley Fire Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies helped to staff tables for the event.
Medication was turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency for destruction.
The next National Drug Take-Back day will be held in the fall.
A release from the Sheriff’s Office reminded residents that designated take back days were not the only time medications could be turned in.
“Residents should know they can dispose of prescription pill medication anytime at the four Rx Drop Box locations,” the release said. The four boxes are located at the Plain City, Marysville and Richwood Police departments as well as the 24/7 box at the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
Residents unable to make the Saturday event can take medications to:
Plain City Police Department at 231 Friend St. in Plain City.
Sheriff’s Office at 221 W. Fifth St. in Marysville.
Marysville Police Department at 1250 W. Fifth St. in Marysville.
Richwood Police Department at 153 N. Franklin St. in Richwood.
