Woman charged with assault at local USA Wrestling tournament
Tanya Semel, 54, of Lewis Center, has been charged with assault after an incident at a local wrestling tournament.
Marysville High School, 800 Amrine Mill Road, was hosting both a dance recital and a USA Wrestling local qualifying tournament and fundraiser Saturday.
Inside the school, one hallway was closed so dancers could use it as a changing facility. Semel needed to use the restroom and was directed by a custodian that the nearest restroom was in that hall. When Semel tried to use the facility, a representative from the dance troupe told her access to the hall was restricted so the children could change. She tried to stop Semel from going into the area.
“Tanya Semel then became belligerent,” according to court documents.
According to court documents, the woman with the dancers tried to stop Semel and escort her out of the hallway, “by placing a hand on her back to turn her around.”
Court documents allege that Semel “turned, grabbed (the woman) by the throat, grabbed her hair and slammed (the woman’s) head into the wall.”
Bystanders then got involved in trying to get Semel out of the hallway.
At about 12:57 p.m., police were called to the scene and, following an investigation, Semel was charged.
