Council to put street levy on November ballot
By SHERRYL SHEETS
Streets, alleys, the park, village employees, and water and sewer issues
were all discussed at the Monday, July 11 Richwood Village Council meeting.
Streets
It was reported that during the week of June 29 through July 4, 2005,
the Richwood Police monitored the speed of motorists on Lynn Street.
Apparently 1,164 motor vehicles drove on that roadway at speeds ranging from
14 to 35 miles per hour. The posted speed limit is 15 mph. The police
department did issue several warnings and tickets to drivers.
With an extremely tight budget, council reluctantly decided to ask voters
for approval of a new levy to fund and maintain village streets. Council
gave Solicitor Rick Rodger permission to start proceedings for the street
levy to be placed on the November ballot. Paperwork needs to be completed
between the Union County Board of Elections and Council by the August 15
deadline.
