GLASS North Union School Superintendent Rick Smith and Board of
Education members discussed employment when they met in regular session on
Monday. Board Member Kevin Crosthwaite was absent. Smith informed board
members that he expected that the district would be receiving a few letters
of resignation before school resumes in September. The job openings are first
posted internally, where some staff members may switch positions or transfer.
The job openings are then posted depending on where the position is. An
opening for a coaching position is posted on the Ohio High School
Athletic Associations website, while a teaching position is posted on the
Ohio Department of Education website.

Village Council members discussed the increase of golf carts traveling on
village streets at the Monday, June 25 meeting.
North Union veterans memorial dedication set All North Union District
Veterans and the public are invited to the presentation and dedication of the
North Union District Veterans Memorial to be held at the Richwood Park
(corner of Veterans Way and Lynn Streets), Wednesday, July 4, at 11
a.m.
30th anniversary well celebrated! Downtown Richwood was quiet
Sunday morning, June 17, after the 30th annual Springenfest came to a close.
North Union Athletic Complex (NUAC) officials were pleased with the two-day
event, especially with the warm, dry temperatures.
Sheriff's
enforcement campaign results in 121 seat belt citations The Union County
Sheriff's Office reported the recent "What's Holding you back?" enforcement
campaign, which ran from May 21 to June 3, resulted in 121 citations for
drivers not wearing a safety belt.
Council enters agreement with R.D. Zande & Associates, Inc. Clock Tower
turns 104 years old By: Leigh Ann Glass John R. Grosse, Senior Project
Manager of R.D. Zande & Associates, Inc., provided Council members with
information regarding the engineering firm at the Monday, June 11, Village
Council meeting. Council member Wade McCalf was
absent.
Turning Point not affiliated with group collecting funds
for domestic violence victims. A group has recently been soliciting
donations for local victims of domestic violence throughout the state. The
group is asking for donations in various communities to benefit "battered
women and children" but, when questioned, seemed very vague as to how the
funds were to be used. They knew nothing about the local shelter or
its services.
Police Chief addresses smash and grabs BY
SGT. BECKY FRAZIER We are now entering the summertime season and there
are specific crimes that the Richwood Police Department would like to make
the public more aware of. Smash and grabs are not a big problem in Richwood,
but we do want you to be aware of what you can do to not become a victim.
This is a crime of opportunity. Of the few smash and grabs we have had,
the victim's purse or other valuables were lying out in plain view for
the thief to see.
Last minute additions for Springenfest
Event NUAC officials are making final preparations for the 30th
annual Springenfest Friday and Saturday, June 15 and 16, on the
downtown streets of Richwood. Added to this year's program is a free
autograph session with the professional arena football team, The Marion
Mayhem. Members of the team will be available from 7 to 8 p.m. for
signatures near the North Union Athletic Booster trailer. As of press time,
plans have not been finalized, but some members of the Marysville Meteors
are penciled in for Saturday evening for autographs and to meet the
public.
Valedictorian and Salutatorian named at NUHS for Class of 2007 Chelsea Anne
Foos has been named valedictorian for the North Union High School Class of
2007. Foos is the daughter of Mitch and Carol Foos and Sue and Randy
Thacker. Kelsey Rachelle Smith has been selected as Salutatorian for the
Class of 2007. She is the daughter of Nevin and Jean Smith.
Graduation
ceremonies set for June 8 North Union High School graduation ceremonies are
set for Friday, June 8. The event will begin at 7 p.m. in the high school
gymnasium
Juvenile struck while crossing street A
fourteen years old juvenile was attempting to cross the street at 26 S.
Franklin St. in an unmarked crosswalk on Tuesday, May 29, running into the
front fender of a vehicle driven by an eighteen year old juvenile. The
pedestrian slid across the hood of the car and landed on the pavement. The
victim was transported to Memorial Hospital of Union County by Northern Union
County EMS, were she was treated and released.
Richwood-NU Alumni
Banquet well attended The 91st Richwood High School-North Union Alumni
Banquet was held Saturday evening, June 2 at the NU Elementary with 175
alumni and guests present.
