Gail DeGood-Guy named District 6 Legionnaire of the Year
Richwood resident
Gail DeGood-Guy was bestowed the honor of being named
the District 6
Legionnaire of the Year Sunday, May 8, at ceremonies held
at the American
Legion Post 584 in Marion.
Civic Center to host AARP driver safety
program
The Richwood Civic Center will be the host site for the AARP
Driver
Safety Program. The two-class course, for those 50 years of age
and
older, is a refresher course to remind drivers of the skills
and
techniques once learned. Taking this class may also earn a discount
with
some insurance companies.
Richwood Garden Club celebrates 55
years
Several women who enjoy gardening formed The Richwood Garden Club
in
March, 1952. The objective of the club was to further interest
in
flowers, trees, shrubs and birds and to promote and develop
public
interest in home and civic beautification. Their policy is to use
funds
to beautify the Village of Richwood.

local officers who died in the
line of duty while serving the
community.
Postal rate to change May 14
The United States Postal
Service has announced that postal rates will
increase effective May 14.
Rising costs of fuel, transportation,
utilities and health care benefits have
forced the business to make
necessary changes. This is the first operational
rate increase since
2002. First Class mail will increase from 39 cents to 41
cents for the
first ounce and 17 cents per additional ounces. Postcards will
rise from
24 to 26 cents.
Post Office collecting donations for REAP
The Richwood Post Office, working
in conjunction with the National
Association of Letter Carriers, will be
collecting non-perishable food
items for the local Richwood Emergency
Assistance Program (REAP) Food
Pantry on Saturday, May 12. These donations
are earmarked for those less
fortunate within the North Union Local School
District.
Task Force calls enforcement effort "A Strong
Beginning"
Law Enforcement Agencies from Union and Marion Counties
announced
recently that the multi-agency task force assigned to the State
Route 4
project yielded "very positive results" in its thirty-day
enforcement
period. The project was aimed at lowering speeds, increasing
seatbelt
usage, and creating safer following distances along the Route 4
corridor
between Marysville and Marion. The Governor's Office of Highway
Safety
provided funding to the task force, which was made up of the
Marion
County Sheriff's Office, the Marion and Marysville Posts of the
Ohio
Highway Patrol, and the Union County Sheriff's Office. The task
force
also utilized the services of the Ohio Department of Transportation
in
posting additional signs and automated message boards used to
educate
the motorists of the dangers of the roadway and to alert them of
the
task force's presence.
North Union Spring Art and Music
Festival
Students from kindergarten through 12th grades got to share
their
talents in art, woodworking and music Saturday, April 28 at both
the
elementary and high schools.
United Way plans "Community Care
Day"
Since 1977, United Way has been bringing neighbors together to
improve
lives. The 11th annual United Way of Union County Community Care
Day
will be held Tuesday, May 15. The volunteer event symbolizes the
true
spirit of United Way as participants help elderly residents do odd
jobs
around the house, clean area parks, conduct food drives, paint,
wash
windows, build wheelchair ramps and more.
Clean-up Day is May
12
The Village of Richwood has set Saturday, May 12 as Community
Clean-up
Day. The collection site will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 111
N.
Fulton Street, near Monroe Field in Richwood Park.
