Richwood Village Council drafts five year plan By: LEIGH ANN GLASS Mayor
Bill Nibert approached council members regarding the need of a five year plan
when they met in regular session Monday, Nov. 26. Council member Wade McCalf
and Village Administrator Larry Baxa were absent.
Community leaders
recognized at annual chamber banquet Union County Chamber of Commerce and
Memorial Hospital of Union County recognized area residents at the annual
Salute to Leaders Banquet held Monday, Nov. 19 in Marysville. Individuals and
organizations received the honor for their contribution to the quality of
life in Union County.
Fraser tosses hat into judicial race Local
attorney Don Fraser has announced his candidacy for judge of the Union County
Common Pleas Court. Recently, Fraser, a Republican, filed petitions with the
Union County Board of Elections to be certified as a candidate for the
position which will be on the March 4, 2008 primary ballot.
School
District implements Alert System Keeping parents informed and involved of
events happening within the local school system is a high priority of the
North Union Board of Education and district personnel. To help achieve this
goal, a new Honeywell "Instant Alert for Schools" has been implemented. This
tool will help assure students' safety and improve notification with
today's on-the-go lifestyles.
Parade and park lighting set for
Saturday Richwood Area Business Association (RABA) is sponsoring the
annual Christmas Parade followed by the lighting of trees at Richwood Park
on Saturday, Dec. 1. The parade, with the theme "Christmas in the
Country," is set to begin at 4 p.m.
School board will put 5.5 mill levy on the March 2008 ballot By: LEIGH ANN
GLASS North Union Board of Education discussed the Phase III project and
the 5.5 mill levy that will be put on the March 2008 ballot. President
Jon Hall was absent and Vice President Kevin Crosthwaite arrived at
7:45 p.m. An executive session took place prior to the regular board
meeting which began at 7:35 p.m.
Dave Burke begins campaign for
State Representative Marysville pharmacist and vice-president of Marysville
City Council, Dave Burke, officially kicked off his campaign for State
Representative by touring the 83rd District on Wednesday, Nov. 14. The tour
included stops in Bellefontaine, West Liberty, Prospect, Richwood and
concluded at a rally at Dave's Pharmacy in Marysville.
Festivities
begin in village for holiday season The holiday season will soon be in full
swing throughout the Village with many upcoming events planned by the
Richwood Area Business Association (RABA).
Bloodmobile drive
successful Richwood First United Methodist Church hosted a bloodmobile on
Monday, Oct. 29, collecting 46 productive units.
Town Hall meetings explain Phase III Timing is everything, especially when
planning for the future. And according to North Union School Superintendent,
Rick Smith, the time is now.
Great Holiday Pie Giveaway
begins Richwood Area Business Association (RABA) is again sponsoring the
Great Pie Giveaway. This annual contest runs now through Thursday, Dec. 6
when the lucky winners will be drawn for a free pie prepared at
Carlyle's Restaurant.
Community Thanksgiving service set for Nov.
18 Richwood Area Ministerial Association (RAMA) will be holding a
community Thanksgiving service on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Fulton
Creek Friends Church.
Toys for Tots in need of donations The
deadline is nearing for the 2007 Toys for Tots campaign and donations are
still desperately needed. Jointly sponsored by Richwood First Baptist Church
and Northern Union County Fire and EMS District, this program gives children
in the Richwood area a chance to enjoy a gift for Christmas.
Nibert re-elected Mayor of Richwood; 9-1-1 levy receives voter
approval Voters went to the polls to cast their ballots on Tuesday, Nov. 6,
with a 23.47% turn-out in Union County.Bill Nibert was re-elected as Mayor
of the Village of Richwood receiving 205 votes. Others running for
that position were Cynthia K. Blackburn, 97 and Wanda Arlene Blue,
164.
North Union places second in National Agronomy
contest Winners of the National Future Farmers of America (FFA) Agronomy
Career Development Event were announced Friday, Oct. 26 at the annual
awards banquet held in Indianapolis, Ind. in conjunction with the 80th
National FFA Convention. Harold Brown of Ohio served as
superintendent.
North Union Schools begins
Early Start Program for
2008 North Union Local School District will be providing a new
educational opportunity designed to help elementary students begin the school
day, ready to learn. It is called the Early Start Program.
Honda
becomes "Part of Something Greater" with 2007 United Way campaign For the
13th time in Honda of America Manufacturing's 28-year history in Ohio,
associates pledged more than $1 million to local United Ways throughout the
company's 15-county hiring region. Result of the company's 2007-08 United Way
campaign announced recently at the Marysville Auto Plant, revealed a $1.76
million fundraiser with $251,280 earmarked for United Way of Union
County.
