Parents and students voice opinions on dress code
All school boards are responsible for the safety and well-being of 
their students when school is in session. Some schools have a uniform 
policy, some have strict guidelines, while other schools allow more 
freedom in their dress codes. Regardless, every school has the 
responsibility of safety, health and welfare as a top priority for 
all students.

County prosecutor opposes egg farm permit

The Union County prosecutor has filed his formal, written objections 
to the proposed HI-Q egg farm in York Township.

School board policy committee hears parents/students comments

Note: This is part one of a two-part series concerning the use of 
school facilities on Sundays, and a proposed campuswear dress code 
that is currently under consideration by the North Union Board of 
Education. The second article will run in the next issue of The 
Richwood Gazette, on December 31.

North Union Board of Education has heard, for a few years, that 
parents and students would like to have a change in Board policy, 
regarding the use of school facilities. The change which would permit 
events to be held, in the schools, on Sundays. Approximately 75 
parents and students got their chance to voice their opinions on this 
issue and on a proposed new dress code/campus wear policy, at a 
meeting held Monday, Dec. 15.

ODPS to change temporary permit procedure

The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) and the Ohio State Highway 
Patrol (OSHP), divisions of the Ohio Department of Public Safety 
(ODPS), are implementing new measures to increase efficiency and 
security when issuing temporary driving permits, commercial driver 
licenses and motorcycle endorsements.

Buzzed driving is drunk driving this holiday season

The holiday season can be one of the deadliest and most dangerous 
times of the year, due to an increase in impaired driving. In 
December 2007, 992 Americans were killed in crashes that involved a 
drunk driver or motorcycle rider (operator) with a blood alcohol 
concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher.

Jurors chosen for Grand and Petit Jury
Union County Board of Elections has released the next selection of 
people chosen for both Grand and Petit jury duty.

Assistant High School Principal Matt Burggraf introduced seniors Erin 
Dixon and Tiffany Smith to board members when they met in regular 
session on Monday.

Goodwin named new village fiscal officer
Timothy P. Goodwin, has been named Fiscal Officer for the Village of 
Richwood, replacing Don Jolliff, who recently resigned.

Area church services scheduled
Several area churches have announced special Christmas services  open 
to the public.

Huff  joins village council
Richwood Village Council members interviewed four candidates Monday, 
Dec. 15, all whom were interested in filling the council seat vacated 
by Jim Thompson, who resigned his position on council November, 13, 
2008.
Pie giveaway winners announced
Richwood Area Business Association held their annual Pie Giveaway 
Contest recently. Winners will each receive a pie, baked by Carlyle’s 
Restaurant.

Meeting set for NU campus wear

On Monday, Dec. 15, at 6 p.m. in the North Union Board of Education 
offices, in Essex, the Policy Committee will be meeting on two 
important issues.

  Richwood Police Chief Monte Asher provided council members with an 
update when they met in regular session on Monday.

Special holiday services

Richwood Ministerial Associaiton to give turkeys/hams for holiday
Richwood Ministerial Association will be giving turkeys or hams, to 
needy families, this Christmas season.

Hamilton named Grand marshal
Pat Hamilton, owner of Pat's Print Shop and active member of the
Richwood Area Business Association (RABA), has been chosen as Grand
Marshal for this year's Richwood Christmas Parade.

Department of Insurance warns consumers about phone scam concerning auto insurance

Ohio Department of Insurance (ODI) Director Mary Jo Hudson is warning
Ohioans about a recent telephone scam, in which the caller claims to be
from the person's auto insurance company. The caller then says they need
the person's personal and financial information in order to process an
insurance payment.

State accredits UC Board of Developmental Disabilities with highest
possible award

Union County Board of Developmental Disabilities (UCBDD) has been
honored with the highest possible award, by the Ohio Department of
Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities.  A five-year
accreditation by the state was awarded to UCBDD for the quality services
and support provided to people with disabilities.

ODA issues preliminary permit to Hi-Q Eggs
Members of the Northwest Neighborhood Alliance (NNA) are asking for
public support their efforts to oppose a draft Permit to Install and
draft Permit to Operate, issued by the Ohio Department of Agriculture
(ODA), to Hi-Q Egg Products, LLC.
