Finish the Dream

  On Tuesday, March 4, the North Union community will decide what type
of school district and community gathering place they want for next
generations.

Candidates and Issues to be decided March 4
All of the political commercials will soon be on hold - until next time,
as registered voters go to the polls to cast their ballots for
candidates and issues. The Presidential Primary Election will be held,
in Ohio, on Tuesday, March 4.

Council approved the second reading of tap-in fees for water and sewer

Village Council members approved the second reading of a revision to the
Village ordinance regarding water and sewer capacity fees, when they met
in regular session on Monday, Feb. 25.

Tri-Rivers places levy on March 4 ballot

Tri-Rivers Career Center (TRCC) has placed a one mill Permanent
Improvement Levy on the Tuesday, March 4 ballot, according to the Career
Center's Superintendent, Chuck Speelman. He said the levy is designed to
provide funds for maintenance and retooling of the Career Center.

IRS will send Stimulus Payments automatically starting in May
Eligible taxpayers must file a 2007 tax return to receive rebate
The Internal Revenue Service is advising taxpayers that in most cases
they will not have to do anything extra this year to get the economic
stimulus payments beginning in May.

Brown Publishing buys Premier Printing

Brown Publishing announced it is acquiring the assets of Premier
Printing, located at 16710 Square Drive in Marysville, from the members
of Premier Printing of Central Ohio, Ltd.

School board updated on high school renovations and color scheme

Cathy Vanhoose of Regency Construction and MKC architect Dave Zeller
provided board members with an update on Phase 2-North Union High School
renovations. MKC interior designer Laura Thompson presented board
members with the high school color scheme when they met in regular
session on Monday, Feb. 11.

Bears spotted in local library
The Richwood-North Union Public is participating  with the Marysville
Public Library in the Union County ABLE/Literacy United Sixth Annual
BEAR (Be Excited About Reading) campaign. Three bears and their books
are on display at the local facility located at the corner of S.
Franklin and E. Ottawa Sts.

Council discusses tap-in fees for water and sewer

Village council members met Monday, Feb. 12 to discuss tap-in fees for
new water and sewer connections. Members Scott Jerew and Wade McCalf
were absent from the meeting.

Groundbreaking ceremony set for new North Union Middle School
A new chapter will be written into the history books for North Union
Schools with the groundbreaking for the District's new middle school. A
"Celebrate North Union" program will highlight this historic occasion on
Saturday, Feb. 23, with events scheduled from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.,
followed later that evening with a musical at 7:30 p.m.

Dillion found not guilty
In a press release received by The Richwood Gazette from the Law Offices
of Marion Attorney J.C. Ratliff, Richwood area businessman Jim Dillion
was found not guilty of receiving stolen property following a five-day
jury trial.

Union County Habitat for Humanity receives grant to build first home

  Habitat for Humanity of Union County has been awarded $33,500 for the
half-house sponsorship of one home to be built in Union County.

County schools participate in "Dance for the Cure"
Katie Rogers, a member of North Union National Honor Society, is
organizing a joint effort with the three Union County schools to raise
funds for the fight to wipe-out breast cancer. Rogers, and Katie Haller,
president of the NUHS chapter, teamed-up with  Allison Conklin of
Fairbanks High School and Robbie Gordon of Marysville High School, to
spearhead a used prom dress and accessory drive and sale, "Dance for the
Cure."  The gowns, shoes, purses and jewelry collected will then be sold
to students who plan to attend school proms. Proceeds from the event
will benefit the fight against breast cancer.

Two indicted in starvation case

Evelyn Cox of Richwood weighed just 63 pounds when she died on June 30,
2003. According to her death certificate, the 73 year old died of
pneumonia, the result of "dehydration" and "starvation."
