Police Chief provides council with an update

Police Chief Monte Asher provided council members with an update when
they met in regular session on Monday, July 28. Council member Jim
Thompson was absent.

Richwood Park Day set for Sunday
Enjoy a walk through the park August 3
Richwood Park is considered one of Richwood's highlights. It's a place
for family  gatherings, fishing tournaments, baseball and softball games
and a fun playground for the children. So mark your calendar for Sunday,
Aug. 3 and bring your family to the annual Park Day event.

Union County Health Department to place levy on November ballot

Union County Health Department (UCHD) received approval recently from
the Union County Commissioners to place a .75 mil replacement levy on
the November 2008 ballot.

Village workers prepare streets for slurry seal
Village Administrator Lin Hensley is reminding residents that certain
streets within the village will receive a slurry seal coat sometime
within the next 14 days. Currently, pothole repair and pre-maintainence
work is being completed on East and West Bomford Sts., Blaine Ave., Lynn
St., Race St. and W. Blagrove to N. Franklin St. before these roadways
are coated. Small signs will be displayed 24 hours in advance announcing
work is scheduled. Hensley said, "Residents will need to have patience
and make temporary parking arrangements during this process."

Terry Gibson dies in racing accident

Richwood native and open wheel race driver Terry Gibson lost his life on
Friday, July 18 on the seventh lap of the first heat of the Midwest
Supermodified Association (MSA) at Toledo Speedway.

Board discusses school uniforms/campus wear

North Union Superintendent Rick Smith approached Board members with the
discussion topic of school uniforms/campus wear when they met in regular
session on Monday, July 21.

Officials from local banks explain the difference between community
and corporate banking institutions

Recent news of financial woes with large banks in the United States sent
businesses and individualsscrambling, wanting to get to their money out
of their banks.

Community-wide yard sales offer bargains galore
Richwood Area Business Association (RABA) is reminding everyone to plan to shop "til
they drop" throughout the Village and outlying areas to find bargains and gems during the
annual community-wide yard sales set for this weekend.

Union County Economic Developer Eric Phillips spoke with council members
during an executive session for the purpose of purchasing land for the
Industrial Park.

New Union County Health Commissioner named
At a special meeting Monday,
the Union County Board of Health appointed Jason Orcena, MA as Union
County Health Commissioner.

Union County Fair is just around the corner
The 162 Annual Union County Fair will begin Sunday, July 20 and run through
Sunday, July 27 held in Marysville, at the fairgrounds. 

Let's go dancing in the
park Calling all youth! A free youth dance will be held, at the Richwood
Park, on Saturday, July 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be free soft
drinks and chips for all who attend. Many prizes will also be given
away.

Time to get ready for the community-wide yard sales
Straighten up those losets, clean out the garage and get ready for the annual
Community-wide Yard Sales event set for Friday and Saturday, July 25 and
26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  This annual event is sponsored by The
Richwood Area Business Association.  

ODOT begins work on state Route
37 Officials from the Ohio Department of Transportation, District 6,
said that work on state Route 37, from state Route 4 to state Route 739,
has begun. 

Antique farm machinery show comes to Richwood Fairgrounds

Turn back the hands of time when you come to the Richwood Fairgrounds.
The Mid Ohio Antique Farm Machinery Show will host their annual event
Friday through Sunday, July 25 to 27.

Sheriff's office initiates investigation of Richwood Police Officer
Fisher

At the request of Richwood Police Chief Monte Asher, the Union County
Sheriff's Office is conducting a criminal investigation involving a
Richwood Police Officer. Officer Travis L. Fisher, 26, resigned from the
Richwood Police Department on Sunday, July 6.

Lifeline Ohio telephone program available to those in need
Lifeline telephone programs provide financial assistance to low-income
residents and help ensure that those customers can afford basic local
telephone service. These programs provide discounts when establishing
service, lower monthly service charges and special payment arrangements.
Customers of Verizon, which services the Richwood area, and Embarq,
(formerly Sprint) are included.

NU announces fees for 2008-09 school year
Pick up a July 9 paper for a list of fees for the 2008-'09 school year
at North Union.

Sales tax increase now in effect
Collection of the one-quarter percent sales tax, passed by voters in
March, began Tuesday, July 1. The county sales tax was increased from
six and one- half percent to six and three-quarters percent.

Celebrate with Prospect July 4

Prospect Lions Club, Battle Run Fire Department and Prospect Legion Post
368 are inviting the public to attend the annual 4th of July
celebration. Enjoy family oriented fun all day on Friday, July 4, at
Prospect Community Park. The morning begins with an all-day baseball
tournament, on the diamond, at the west end of the park.

Regency Construction updates school board on building projects

Carrie Fortman of Regency Construction provided board members with an
update on the building projects when they met in regular session on
Monday, June 30. An executive session took place prior to the regular
meeting which began at 7:43 p.m.

Confirmed case of E.coli found in Union County

Union County Health Department (UCHD) received confirmation recently
that a Union County resident's illness is part of the E.Coli O157:H7
outbreak being monitored in central Ohio.
