Council discusses several issues pertaining to the park

George Showalter, special events coordinator at the park, provided
council members with an update from the recent fishing tournament at the
Monday, June 23 village council meeting. Council members Jason Beeney
and Jim Thompson were absent.

CodeRED system being questioned  by officials
Union County and City of Marysville officials announced recently a
change in the use of the emergency notification system called "CodeRED."

Rain doesn't spoil Springenfest
Saturday's rain didn't stop events during the annual Springenfest,
sponsored by the North Union Athletic Complex (NUAC). After the storm,
volunteers swept off streets, wiped off tables and chairs and business
was back to normal.

State makes error in school tax reimbursement
North Union officials have received word that the State of Ohio has made
an error in the school-funding formula where some school districts will
receive extra money and others will have to pay back.

Village to spray for mosquitos
Village Administrator Lin Hensley has announced that this week, Jamie
Apt, park caretaker, will begin spraying for mosquitos throughout the
village and during the summer on an as-needed basis.

Richwood Police Department gets wired

 Richwood Village Council members have been concerned about the number
of fights and confrontations Richwood Police Department officers have
had to handle. So they authorized Police Chief Monte Asher to purchase
two Taser weapons, hoping to deter future incidents.

Springenfest Arrives!
Downtown streets of Richwood will be buzzing with activity this weekend
when the North Union Athletic Complex stages the annual Springenfest
event. Festivities will begin  at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 20 and
Saturday, June 21.

Richwood Beach is open again after 15 years
For the first time since it closed in 1993, the beach at Richwood Lake
is officially open for business.

Sheriff announces plan to conserve fuel

As fuel costs continue to rise, Union County Sheriff Rocky Nelson has
put into place measures to reduce fuel consumption and thereby minimize
the effect the current prices are having on taxpayers.

Village Administrator provides council with information to repair streets

 Mayor Bill Nibert swore in new council member Jason Beeney prior to the
regular meeting on Monday, June 9. Beeney fills the seat left open by
Wade McCalf.

Springenfest is a fun family event
  Springenfest officials hope to make Friday and Saturday, June 20 and
21 a weekend where families can enjoy good food, games and
entertainment, and help provide fund for North Union athletes at the
same time.

Relay for Life event begins this weekend
  Union County Relay for Life annual event will kick off Friday, June 13
at 7 p.m. With the theme "Rock and Roll for a Cure,"  the 18-hour relay
will be staged at the Marysville High School track and is open to the
public for participation. Normally held during May, the relay was moved
to June in hopes for better weather. Inclement conditions have normally
deterred some patrons in the past.

North Union names Valedictorian/Salutatorian for 2008

North Union School District has named the 2008 high school seniors that
will serve as Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the 2007-'08 school
year. Chad Oldham, son of Lynn and Jan Oldham has earned the distinction
of Valedictorian and Morgan Taylor, daughter of Connie Taylor and David
Taylor has achieved the status of Salutatorian.

North Union Class of 2008 to graduate on June 6
Students in the North Union Senior Class of 2008 will graduate during
ceremonies to be held Friday, June 6 at the high school. The event will
be held in the gymnasium, beginning at 7 p.m.

Annual Springenfest event is just around the corner
Springenfest will arrive Friday, June 20 and Saturday, June 21. This
event, which began 31 years ago, has raised nearly $450,000 through the
efforts of the North Union Athletic Complex and the many volunteers who
make the festival possible. All profits from the fundraiser are used to
build, maintain and update athletic facilities at North Union.

Test drive results in prison time

A Union County jury found a Delaware County man guilty of stealing a car
from a Richwood car dealership.

Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall coming to Union County this fall
The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall will be coming to Union County on
Thursday, Sept. 11 and will remain on display until Sunday, Sept. 14.
The Memorial will be set-up at the Union County Fairgrounds, 845 N. Main
St.
