Law enforcement officials declared Route 4 program a success
Law enforcement officials have declared a statewide traffic safety
blitz along the length of Ohio’s Route 4 a success. The Ohio Traffic
Safety Office (OTSO) coordinated the “Riverbanks to Lakeside”
corridor enforcement project, spanning from the Ohio River to Lake
Erie. The effort began at midnight Dec. 18 and ran for 24 hours.

Red Cross announces blood drive schedule
The Union County Chapter of the American Red Cross has announced
dates for the month of January when the public is urged to consider
donating blood.

Union County Health Dept. updates H1N1 clinics
An announce was made by the Union County Health Department that the
next open public H1N1 clinic, will be held Friday, January 8, from
1:30 to 5:30 p.m. The location has not been announced as of press
time. Officials said that they experienced short or no wait times
during their first clinic, especially after the first hour. Contact
the health department at 937-645-2047 for additional information.

Parish indicted
Caleb Z. Parish, 21, whose court-listed address is the Tri-County
Regional Jail, has been indicted on two counts of aggravated
trafficking in drugs, one a third-degree felony and the other a
felony of the fourth degree; burglary, a second-degree felony; three
counts of possession of criminal tools, felonies of the fifth degree;
aggravated possession of heroin, a fifth-degree felony and theft, a
misdemeanor of the first degree.

Office will close
The Richwood Gazette will be closed Friday, Jan. 1 on New Year’s Day.
Normal hours of operation, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., will resume on
Monday, Jan. 4. Patrons are welcome to use the drop slot for articles
or payments.

Annual holiday decorating contest winners announced
The Richwood Area Business Association (RABA) held their annual house
decorating contest and friends of The Richwood Civic Center
volunteered to serve as judges. After two nights of viewing the
holiday lights in and around Richwood, they have announced their
decisions. Winners will receive a gift certificate from RABA that can
be used at any local business in Richwood.

Hall of Pride nominations sought
It’s that time of year when North Union High School begins their
search for recognizing graduations of Richwood and North Union High
Schools. Their goal is to inform the public of graduates
contributions to society.

RABA discusses past and future events
Members of The Richwood Area Business Association met Tuesday, Dec.
8 to discuss recent and future events within the village. Recent RABA
sponsored activities include the Christmas Parade, annual pie
contest, Hospitality Nite, coloring contest and house decorating
contest. The group also honored the 2009 North Union football team on
their season’s success making the state playoffs for the first time
by presenting them a plaque during their sports banquet.

Health Department offers H1N1 vaccinations
Union County Health Department is offering H1N1 vaccinations by
appointment only over the holiday season.

Office to close early for Christmas Eve
The Richwood Gazette office will close at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 24,
for Christmas Eve, so employees can celebrate the holidays with their
families. Regular office hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. will resume
on Monday, Dec. 28. We send Christmas greetings to all our readers

Tri-Rivers hosts NU School Board meeting
North Union School Board members received an up close view of the
direction of the Tri-Rivers Career Center in Marion Monday night.

with a whole new style.

Council accepting applications for vacant seat
Village council members discussed inviting residents living within
the corporation to submit applications for a vacant council seat,
left by current councilman, Jason Beeney, at the Monday, Dec. 14
meeting.

Union County Sheriff hosts kickoff to statewide event
On Thursday, Dec. 17, Union County Sheriff Rocky Nelson will be
hosting a media event to kickoff the Ohio Traffic Safety Office’s
“Riverbanks to the Lakeside Project.” The project is a high-
intensity enforcement effort with the Ohio Traffic Safety Office
(OTSO) and law enforcement agencies from along the state Route 4
corridor. The announcement will be held at the Union County
Agricultural Centr, 18000 Route 4, near Marysville, beginning at 2 p.m.

RABA announces pie contest winners
The Richwood Area Business Association held their annual Pie Giveaway
contest and have released the names of the winners. Customers were
invited to sign-up at participating businesses in Richwood, hoping to
win a certificate for a pie of their choice, baked at Carlyle’s
Restaurant. Listed below are the winner’s names and the businesses
where they were chosen:

Churches offer Christmas services
Area churches are inviting the public to attend special Christmas
services throughout the community. Children’s plays, live nativities,
choirs and candlelight services will be available for those wishing
to celebrate the Christmas season.

Deadlines to advertise in the Wednesday, Dec. 30 and Wednesday, Jan.
6, 2010 The Richwood Gazette will be adjusted, so employees may enjoy
the holidays with their families.
Advertising deadline for the Wednesday, Dec. 30 Gazette will be
Wednesday, Dec. 23, by 1 p.m. Deadline for the January 6, 2010
edition will be Wednesday, Dec. 30, also by 1 p.m.
The normal deadline of 1 p.m. Friday will resume for the Wednesday,
Jan. 13 edition.

Residents line street to watch Christmas Parade
Despite the cooler temperatures, children, parents and grandparents
lined N.Franklin St. to watch the annual Richwood Christmas Parade,
Saturday, Dec. 5. People were bundled up with blankets and extra
layers of clothing, just to catch a glimpse of everyone who
participated in the parade.

United Way of Union County needs your help!
Ask Dave Bezusko what he would like for Christmas and I’ll bet he’d
ask if more residents would help support United Way.

4-R Kids invites youths to center
Some people just know when the time is right. “I know this is what
I’m meant to do,” states Carol Owens, operator of the 4-R Kids Youth
Center, located at 35 Herbert St. The facility it located at the
corner of Herbert and Pearl streets, formerly known as Vintage
Blossom. The building is owned by Jack and Amy Kirby, who lease the
facility to Owens.

Increased donations leads to new Goodwill booth in Richwood
You might have noticed a shiny, blue addition in the community. The
Richwood Cardinal Market, located at 365 E. Blagrove St., now has a
brand new Goodwill donation booth. Marion Goodwill Industries,
serving Marion, Delaware, Union, Crawford, and Morrow Counties, is
currently adding several donation booths in their five-county region
as a direct result of increased donations. “Community members have
been so generous with donations, we need more booths to accommodate!”
says Bob Jordan, President/CEO of Marion Goodwill Industries.

Richwood Area Ministerial Association to give turkeys for yuletide
holiday
The Richwood Area Ministerial Association will be helping families
who are struggling financially this year, by giving turkeys for their
Christmas dinner.

Memorial Hospital named as finalist for national award
Memorial Hospital of Union County was named as a Top 10 Finalist for
the American Alliance of Healthcare Providers (AAHCP)’s 2009 Hospital
of the Year award. The nationwide award is designed to find America’s
most customer-friendly hospitals based on either an extensive
application process or a review of a facility’s public communication
and staff interaction with customers. Memorial Hospital is the only
facility in Oho to make the Top 10.

New Pizza shop dares to be different
Rich Knisley and Matt Hammond are no strangers to Richwood. After
selling their special type of pizza at The Richwood Fair for the last
two years, they were impressed with the friendliness of Richwood.
That made it an easy decision to make Richwood their home base for
business.

North Union High School participates in the Teen Safe Driver Pledge
program
North Union High School is one of 410 schools throughout the country
participating in the Teen Safe Driver Pledge, an online agreement
between parents and teen drivers that establishes safe driving
expectations. By participating in the program, North Union High
School earns an automatic cash prize from program sponsor American
Family Insurance and is in the running for larger cash prizes based
on the school’s participation rate.

Community Action Organization to discuss programs available for Union
County
Community Action Organization of Delaware, Madison and Union Counties
in partnership with the Richwood-North Union Public Library, will be
hosting a community meeting Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. at the
library, located at the corner of N. Franklin and E. Ottawa Streets.
