Heritage’s “Fueling the cure” campaign off to good start
Three Ohio cooperatives have recently deployed pink propane delivery 
trucks in a unique partnership to support the Stefanie Spielman Fund 
for Breast Cancer Research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive 
Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.

Council hears residents reports on Forest Lane traffic problems
Residents of the Forest Lane Condominiums approached Richwood Village 
Council Monday night about the police department’s unwillingness to 
work traffic control on the facility grounds.

Luscaleets honored as grand marshals of Christmas parade
The Richwood Area Business Association (R.A.B.A.) is gearing up for 
the holidays, making final arrangements for the Saturday, Dec. 5 
Christmas Parade. And leading off the parade will be grand marshals 
Jim and Denice Luscaleet.

Workman’s book chronicles war, heroism and redemption

When Jeremiah Workman was a student at North Union High School, he no 
doubt dreamed of many things in his future. Becoming a published 
author was not one of them.

NU School to hold annual food drive
  Students in the North Union School District will hold their annual 
food drive the week of December 7 through the 11. Non-perishable 
items will be donated to the Richwood Emergency Assistance Program 
Food Pantry, 235 Grove St. in Richwood, to help those in the area who 
are less fortunate or finding that income is not covering their 
expenses.

Academic progress explained to NU board

Charts and statistics can be boring and lose a crowd instantly.
Based on this, North Union Curriculum Coordinator Dave Baker decided 
to honor the district’s academic progress using sports terminology. 
All three schools in the district received excellent designations on 
state report cards in 2009.

Miller, Shields receive football honors

While the 2009 North Union High School football team is still working 
on erasing the disappointment of its loss to St. Henry in the 
Division V regional quarterfinals, post season awards are being 
bestowed on several members of the program.

Chamber of Commerce pays tribute to area leaders
The Union County Chamber of Commerce held its annual Salute to 
Leaders Banquet on Thursday, Nov. 12.
Members of the community were recognized for their leadership and 
dedication to their community, having enriched the lives of others.

Office to close for holiday
The Richwood Gazette will be closed Thursday, Nov. 26 for the 
observance of Thanksgiving

Passes ordinance on feeding wildlife at Richwood Lake
The most interesting portions of the Richwood Village Council’s 
meeting Monday night, may have occurred behind closed doors.

Middle School recognized by Project Lead The Way
North Union Middle School was formally recognized as a “2009 National 
Project Lead the Way School of Excellence” by Project Lead the Way, 
Sinclair College, The Ohio Board of Regents and The Ohio Department 
of Education at the Project Lead the Way Ohio 2009 Fall Conference at 
Sinclair Community College in Dayton.

H1N1 Clinic hours expanded; additional clinic added
Union County Health Department has expanded hours for the Thursday, 
Nov. 12 H1N1 clinic and has scheduled another H1N1 clinic for 
Tuesday, Nov. 24.

Richwood Bloodmobile year-end report
Most everyone knows how vitally important it is to be a blood donor. 
You have an opportunity to help save three peoples lives with one 
pint of donated blood. Between emergency surgeries and accidents, a 
hospital’s supply can be depleted in a day.

Ft. Hood tragedy has local connection
News was reported last week of the tragedy that struck Fort Hood Army 
base, where a soldier took the lives of 12 people and wounded 31 others.

Richwood Ministerial Association to give turkeys for holiday
The Richwood Area Ministerial Association will be helping families 
who are struggling financially this year, by giving turkeys for their 
Thanksgiving dinner.

Voters speak their voice on local and state issues

Voters in Union County  expressed their opinions at the poles on 
state and local issues and electing township officials and school 
board members Tuesday.

Wildcats complete perfect season
The 2009 North Union High School football season has truly been 
historic.
With a pulsating 15-13 win at Buckeye Valley on Friday, the Wildcats 
wrapped up the school’s first undefeated season and their first MOAC 
title in a decade. They also earned the school’s first appearance in 
the OHSAA playoffs.

North Union places third in National Agronomy contest
Winners of the National FFA Agronomy Career Development Event (CDE) 
were announced recently at the annual awards banquet, held in 
conjunction with the 82nd National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, 
Ind. Harold Brown, of Ohio, served as superintendent of the event.

Care Train of Union County keeps rolling
The Care Train of Union County has experienced a busy month, as 
applications for assistance during the holiday season continue to 
arrive daily. Currently applications from 111 families with 257 
children 12 and under and 51 children between the ages of 12 and 17 
have been reviewed. In addition, 72 senior members of the community 
and 31 adults with developmental disabilities have also asked for 
assistance during the holidays. The Care Train application can be 
found and downloaded on the website, www.caretrain.org The deadline 
for submitting an application is Friday, Nov. 20. Locally, 
applications are available to Parrott Implement, located on E. 
Blagrove St., Richwood.

Teacher suspended for ‘professional misconduct’
North Union Superintendent Rick Smith stated the school district has 
suspended teacher Amy White on Tuesday, Oct. 28 for “suspicion of 
professional misconduct.” She has been placed on home suspension with 
pay and will be given due process pending the completion of the 
district’s investigation.

What is “Veteran’s Day?”
What is “Veteran’s Day?” How, why and when was it started? Who does 
it honor? “Armistice Day” was established to celebrate the millions of U.S. 
troops who won World War I.
