Heifer Festival is
gearing up for 5th annual run
The 5th Annual Heifer Festival will be held at
the Richwood
Fairgrounds on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. All
profits of
the festival will be donated to Heifer International, a
non-profit
organization that has been working to help the less fortunate
for
over 60 years. Admission and parking are free and activities for all
ages will provide fun for everyone.

Two weeks after voting in a ban on
feeding geese and animals within
the village, Richwood Council may be
wavering on the decision.
Ohio State Bank working to correct FDIC
citations
The Ohio State Bank, with offices in Richwood, Marion, and other
locations, has been working to correct problems cited in a cease and
desist order issued by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. more than
a
year ago.
Prominent citizen, DeLynn Kale, dies from cancer at age
65
Richwood lost one of its more notable residents late last week when
DeLynn Kale succumbed to cancer at the age of 65.
Care Train of Union County kicks off its 23rd year
In an effort to touch as
many lives as possible, the Care Train of
Union County Board met last week
to begin planning for the annual
Care Train Auction, which will be held on
Saturday Dec. 12, at
McAuliffe’s Ace Hardware in Marysville. This marks the
twenty-third
year the Care Train will make holiday dreams come true by
providing
food and toys for many Union County residents and families
enduring
financial challenges.
Couple wed at Richwood Fair
Doug
and Judi Greenwood know that every year, they will be
celebrating their
wedding anniversary at The Richwood Independent
Fair. That's because the
couple were married Saturday, Sept. 5 in the
antique area of the
fair.
NU Middle School loaded with new technology
At a short school
board meeting at North Union Middle School Monday
night, the events of the
meeting were less important that its location.
Ohio State Highway Patrol
plans OVI sobriety checkpoint
The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced today
that troopers will
operate a low-manpower, multi-agency OVI sobriety
checkpoint to deter
and intercept impaired drivers this week.
Councilman wants to be better informed
On Monday night, a Richwood council
member quoted Vince Lombardi and
then launched into a series of requests
aimed at making the village
and council better.
Officials deem
Richwood Independent Fair a success!
Scott McNamee, Fair board president,
said “We had five days of great
weather. Monday’s rain forced the
cancellation of the harness races,
but overall, we were pleased with the
community support.”
Community supports Bloodmobile
Church hosted a
bloodmobile on Monday, August 17 with 52 productive
units
collected.
RABA hosts Customer Appreciation Day
The phrase “shop
at home,” is a powerful statement, one that can make
or break a community.

invites the public to come
downtown Saturday, Sept. 19 in honor of
their customers

Church locates to larger facility
David Hudson had a calling at age 15 and
has been preaching ever
since. He began his first pastorate 17 months ago
at Community United
Calvary Church, where attendance has risen from 28 to
an average of
80 or more each Sunday. He has baptized 31 people and is
working on
a waiting list of others. He’s not concerned about how many
people
fill the pews each week. His old fashioned style of preaching,
emphasizes on the Gospel, which is helping the congregation to
grow.
UC Board of Health plans for flu shots
Union County Board of
Health met in regular session Wednesday, Aug.
19. In Director Reports,
Health Commissioner Jason Orcena, reported
the Union County Health
Department is busy planning for the many
possible scenarios associated with
H1N1 flu, including the potential
for a mass H1N1 vaccination clinic.
Orcena further stated that the
staff has been diligently working with our
many community partners
such as schools, local law enforcement, the
Emergency Management
Agency, businesses, and health professionals to try
and slow the
spread of H1N1 in the community.
Red Cross is looking
for volunteers
The Union County Chapter of the American Red Cross has
openings for
Disaster Responder Volunteers. Any community support to the
Union
County chapter goes to the direct support of disaster victims,
providing lodging, food, clothing and other immediate needs. Anyone

Traffic
Advisory Notice
The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has released a
traffic
advisory for state Route 739, between Osborne Rd. and Cunningham
Arbela Rd. Work will begin Monday, Sept. 14.
Candidates and issues set for November 3 election
The August 20 deadline for
nominating petitions of candidates in
nonpartisan races has passed.
Candidates and issues for the Tuesday,
Nov. 3 ballot are almost set, with
the exception of the Wednesday,
Sept. 2 deadline for write-in
candidates.
North Union receives “Excellent” grade card
The Ohio
Department of Education has released their findings for the
2008-09 school
year and they show North Union School District
receiving an “excellent”
rating. Having met 23 of 30 indicators and a
performance index of 96.4, the
school district is rated above average
on the Value Added
Measure.
Rising to meet the challenge – United Way sets $900,000
goal
Economic downturn deemed a call to action, not an excuse
When the
going gets tough, the tough get fundraising. United Way
volunteers have
established a milestone $900,000 goal for their
annual fall campaign.
That’s a seven percent increase they hope to
achieve over last year to meet
growing demand for social services in
Union County.
