Primary Election Day set for Tuesday, May 4
Voters will hit the polls Tuesday, to cast their ballots on various 
issues. Listed below, are issues voters will face in the state of 
Ohio, county and local issues:

Council discusses upcoming events to be held at Richwood Park/Lake
A triathlon in the village of Richwood could be closer than people 
think.
The possibility of such a race in the village, complete with a 
swimming component in the Richwood Lake, was discussed at Monday’s 
village council meeting.

Art Festival to showcase the fine arts
The North Union Local Schools Department of Fine Arts presents their 
annual “Spring Has Sprung” festival. The event will be held on 
Saturday, May 1, highlighting the arts in all three schools.

North Union FFA students earn state degrees
The North Union FFA recently announced two members, Kyle Dresback and 
Lindsey Pfeiffer, received their State FFA Degrees.

Get informed on Child Abuse Prevention Month
The Union County Department of Job and Family Services (UCDJFS) and 
Children Protective Services want you to be aware of child abuse and 
to learn how to prevent it.

Publish a day late
Due to the Primary Election Day, Tuesday, May 4, The Richwood 
Gazette  will be publishing a day later than normal. The staff would 
like to have the election results posted in the newspaper for our 
readers. The Thursday, May 6 newspaper will be available on newstands and 
subscribers should expect to receive their paper one day later in the 
mail.


School officials discuss drug testing for high school extra-
curricular activities

North Union officials hope to bring draft wording of a policy for 
drug testing for students in extra curricular activities next month.

Summertime fun at Richwood Park
The recent warm temperatures have made many people think about spring 
and summer events at Richwood Park. Richwood council members want the 
public to enjoy the facilities at the lake and park, but also want to 
remind you about some safety guidelines.

Prospective jurors selected for May term
The Union County Board of Elections has released the jurors selected  
for May jury duty.

Council concerned about use of recycling bins
Village Council members  recently had recycling bins installed behind 
the new village administration building, located to 153 N. Franklin 
St.  The purpose of the installation was to help keep the village and 
surrounding areas clean, offering residents a drop-off location for 
recyclables. The response has mostly been encouraging with the 
success of donations. Although, some of the donations have been less 
than favorable.

Traffic stop leads to indictment
An officer from the Richwood Police Department stopped a vehicle on 
October 17, 2009, for a minor traffic violation, stemming from a 
driving complaint. Upon talking with the driver and passenger in the 
vehicle, the officer noticed criminal indicators and requested a 
search of the vehicle.

Village council discusses  security system for park

Richwood Village Council heard a presentation Monday night that might 
put the clamps on vandalism at Richwood park.

Household hazardous waste collection set
The North Central Ohio Sold Waste District is sponsoring a Household 
Hazardous Waste Collection for Union County  on Saturday, April 24. 
The collection site will be held at the Union County Recyclers 
facility located at 15140 E. Route 36, near Marysville. Collection 
hours will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. rain or shine. Morning hours 
are usually the busiest time, so be prepared for a possible longer 
wait to have your items unloaded.

Smith earns Eagle Scout award
Aaron Smith, a senior at North Union High School, has successfully 
taken the final step towards his goal of reaching the rank of Eagle 
Scout. Four percent of boys who enter scouting, ever become an Eagle 
Scout.

Union County Safe Communities report zero traffic fatalities
The Union County Health Department’s Safe Communities program 
reported that no traffic fatalities occurred in Union County from 
January 1, through Mar. 31, 2010. This compares with two deaths for 
the same period in 2009.

Boy Scouts celebrate 100th anniversary at Richwood Park
The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is the largest youth organizations in 
the United States, with over six million youth members in its age-
related divisions. Since its founding in 1910, as part of the 
international Scout Movement, more than 110 million Americans have 
been members of the BSA, which includes Presidents, CEO's, governors, 
mayors, scientists, and astronauts.

Road closure
Route 739 will close between Route 37 and Wasserbeck Rd. starting at 
9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 20 for culvert replacement.

 Richwood Police Department has relocated
The telephone number is the same, but the location has changed for 
the Richwood Police Department as they have relocated to 153 N. 
Franklin St. into the new village administration building.

Healthcare on the move
The Union County Health Department is celebrating the “Week of the 
Young Child” (Apr. 11-17) by bringing mobile health services to the 
children of Richwood on Tuesday, Apr. 13.

Ohio State Bank has new ownership
Rbancshares, Inc., (RBS) finalized closing arrangements on The Ohio 
State Bank, headquartered in Marion. With the new ownership comes $7 
million in new capital to The Ohio State Bank. The new capital is to 
be used to restore the bank’s regulatory capital ratios which now 
exceed the regulatory definition of a well-capitalized bank.

NU FFA sales team competes at state level
The North Union FFA Agricultural Sales Team placed 12th at the State 
Agriculture Sales Career Development Event at Tolles Technical Center 
in Plain City. The sales team consisted of Dalton Bradford, Hillary 
Hall, Zac Hamilton, and Emmy Britton. This was North Union FFA’s 
first ever qualifying sales team to advance past district and earn 
the state trip.

Have you mailed your 2010 Census form?
U.S. Census forms were mailed to every household on March 1. To date, 
54 percent of the nation’s households have mailed back their census 
forms.

Richwood-North Union Alumni banquet set
Richwood-North Union Alumni officers are finalizing plans for the 
94th Alumni Banquet set for Saturday, June 12. The event will be held 
at North Union High School, 401 N. Franklin St. The social hour will 
be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. with dinner served at 6:30. The dinner is 
catered by Carlyle’s and the North Union Show Choir will entertain.
