Former resident and two others were lost at sea
Former Richwood  resident, Kevin Wood, 45, and two friends,
John Land, 48 and David  Blakeney, 39, left on a Thursday morning
in Land’s 32 foot boat,  “Shade Maker,” to do some offshore fishing.
Their one day fishing  excursion turned into a two-day ordeal, one they
will never forget.

Richwood teen earns grand champion livestock award at Ohio State Fair

A dream came true for Tyler Gray Aug. 8, when the local 4-H and FFA 
exhibitor sold his grand champion pen of meat chickens at the Ohio 
State Fair’s Sale of Champions.

Are you ready for The 2010 Richwood Fair?
In less than three weeks, area residents will be putting the final 
touches on their crafts, garden produce and woodworking projects, 
getting them ready for competition at The Richwood Fair. FFA and 4-H 
students will be prepping their livestock projects, finishing their 
sewing projects and their last practice at baking their cakes for a 
top grade from the judges.

Board members raise additional questions on drug testing policy
Officials at the North Union School District are ready to roll out 
their random drug testing policy.

Moore chosen to take Honor Flight
Honor Flight Columbus honors World War II (WWII) veterans with a trip 
to Washington D.C. to visit their WWII memorial. The memorial, 
dedicated in 2004, honors those who served during that time. Veterans 
who apply are chosen for the free flight from a waiting list.

Townships to dedicate Greenville Treaty Line marker
A joint venture between the trustees of Washington and York Townships 
resulted in the placement of a marker to commemorate the Greenville 
Treaty Line.

All-Ohio Balloon Fest has provided vital assistance to United Way campaign

The sky is the limit for the 2010 United Way campaign. Therefore, 
it’s appropriate that the first major fundraiser conducted for the 
organization’s effort would be the All-Ohio Balloon Fest.

Two people died Tuesday, Aug. 3 after an emergency vehicle collided 
with a semi-truck just outside of Union County.

Alley closure discussion tense at council meeting
A request for an alley closure in Richwood led to tense discussion at 
Monday’s village council meeting.

North Union Schools announce free and reduced lunch program
North Union Schools have released its 2010-2011 program year policy 
for free and reduced-price meals or free milk for students unable to 
pay the full price of meals or milk served under the National School 
Lunch and School Breakfast. After School Care Snack or Special Milk 
Program. Each school office and the central office has a copy of the 
policy, which may be reviewed by any interested party.

Richwood welcomes new hardware store
Area residents have had to go out of town the past few years to get 
that specific plumbing piece, get keys made, blades sharpened or a 
box of roofing nails for their home improvement project. Brad and 
Vallarie Plotner are hoping to keep residents happy as they have 
opened Plotner Hardware.

Ohio Chautauqua comes to Richwood
The village streets were busy last Wednesday when the Ohio Chautauqua 
was in town, sharing history of the 1930s.

Counterfeit money has surfaced in Richwood
Is it real or counterfeit? That is the question. Counterfeit bills 
have been surfacing in Richwood and surrounding areas of late in 
smaller denominations than counterfeiters usually try and reproduce, 
such as $5, $10 and $20. It is hard to distinguish the real from the 
fake money.

Voters asked to cast vote on levy
Richwood Village council members held a special meeting Wednesday, to 
approve the third reading on a proposed replacement levy for the 
November 2 ballot. Council did not have a quorum at the regular 
Monday meeting, to approve the motion. The need for the special 
meeting was to act on the third reading before the August 4 deadline 
with the election board.
